Ellsworth and wife Nettie Premer had no children. Nettie's widowed mother Tamosine was living with them in the 1920 census. Ellsworth's occupation in 1900 was that of photographer; in 1910 he was a laborer in a factory; and in 1920 he was a minister in the Evangelical Methodist church.

I would love to find more about his photography career, as I have seen some older photographs that have his studio listed at my parents house.

Eli W. Haley Family - Jay Co., IN

Today I sourced the census data for the 1900-1920 census records for the Eli W. Haley family of Jay Co., IN. Of particular interest to me was the 1920 census, as that was the first record of my grandmother, Ruth, in the U.S. census.

Eli W. Haley was a farmer in Noble Twp., Jay Co., IN. during those years. I did find it interesting how the names of the children were sometimes listed. For instance, daughter Clara Elnora Haley was Nora C. in the 1910 census and Nora A. in the 1920 census - I've also heard her referred to as Nora.

The Haley family lived on Noble Pike in the 1920 census next door to the Miller family. In 1917, daughter Mary A. Haley married Galen Miller. It is interesting to see who my ancestor's neighbors were and see the connections between intermarriages.

Eli Weldon HALEY b. March 24, 1866 Erie Co., OH., d. June 14, 1957 Jay Co., IN., m. July 21, 1888 Jay Co., IN to Cora Belle METZNER, daughter of John Adam and Clara (MOULTON) METZNER. Cora b. September 1843 Licking Co., OH., d. July 2, 1899 Westchester, Jay Co., IN.

The census record clearly showed Robert's middle initial as 'E', but I've seen it listed as 'N' as well on the marriage record. His son John W. Kimble was also living with them in the 1900 census. Robert's occupation was that of a farmer, his father was born in New York and his mother was born in Ohio.

I need to track down the children in the later census records. The family also apparently bounced back and forth between Ohio and Jay Co., IN - also daughter Bessie shows born in Tennessee.

Book : 69th Indiana Volunteer Infantry

Received this email about a book published on the 69th Indiana Vol. Infantry, in which a relative served.

Dear Mr. LeMaster:
I found your website listing Thomas W. Groenendyke, 69th Indiana Volunteer Infantry, and wanted to let you know about a book just published about the 69th. It contains a short work written by Thomas and read at the reunion in 1897. He wrote about a friend and comrade who died at the Battle of Richmond, Kentucky, in 1862. There is also a letter written by him from Lynn Haven, Florida, in 1912.
I am attaching a PDF file with more information and an order blank.
