Albert Moulton - El Dorado Co., CA

Albert MOULTON appears in the 1850 census of Placerville, El Dorado Co., CA as a gold miner. I believe that this is my 3rd-great grandfather. Albert was the son of Selah and Lydia (FENNEL) MOULTON.

Albert was listed as born in Vermont, aged 31, working as a miner bringing in $2.00 per day in labor. He was living with another miner, Henry Belknap of New York.

My 2nd-great grandmother, Clara (Moulton) Metzner's father was stated to have gone to California during the gold rush. Whether or not he divorced his wife is not known. This is the only record of Albert that I've been able to find that matches.

Abel Moulton household - Rutland Co., VT

Abel MOULTON appears in the 1860 & 1870 census of Castleton, Rutland Co., VT. Abel was my paternal 4th-great granduncle, the son of John and Avis (HURLBUT) MOULTON.

In the 1860 census, Abel is living in the household of John and Louis EATON, his in-laws. Abel is listed as a 59 year old farmer, born in Vermont, with real estate valued at $1100 and a personal estate valued at $600. His wife Miriam was listed as aged 60, born in Vermont.

By the 1870 census, Abel is listed as a 69 year old farmer, born in Vermont, with real estate valued at $500 and a personal estate valued at $2000. Wife Miriam was listed as 70 years old, born in Vermont.

I do not know if Abel and Miriam had any children. There was a William Moulton family living next door in the 1860 census that could be a son.
