What I Learned From This Document: The plat map states that the property is located at 620 West Broadway, Alexandria, Indiana, but I know that it was 610 West Broadway. Christian Easterday (1831-1918)
After posting the Family Milestone post for April 25th, I was surprised to find that I didn't have more information on Christian EASTERDAY, who married my paternal 2nd-great grandaunt, Barbara Helen HALEY. I didn't have his parentage, nor his death date, and the only family record I had was the 1900 census, when they lived in the 3rd ward of the city of Portland, Jay County, Indiana.
A quick search of Ancestry.com located the death record of Christian on May 21, 1918 in Portland, Jay County, Indiana, as recorded by the W.P.A. in the index of Indiana death records. The record is located in Book CH-2, page 75. Will have to check that out when I next get back to Portland.

Were your parents active in any clubs?
Mom and dad were members of the Elks. At that time it was more private - teachers and professionals, etc. "What you saw up there stayed up there." Mom and dad did a lot of dancing up there. Your dad and I belonged there for awhile.
The Elks took drinkers to fund it. Mom and dad would have a drink, but were not heavy drinkers. Some folks would spend $50 to $100 a night there. The Elks were considered 'upper class', hard liquor crowd. The Eagles was a blue-jean, factory worker, beer-drinking crowd.
The Elks used to have tip-boards back when you couldn't gamble. One year dad won a stuffed Santa there. I always think of him when we pull it out for Christmas.
Mom may have been in a sorority when she was first married, but I don't know for sure.

Happy Blogoversary!
Happy Blogoversary!
It’s hard to believe that it has been 4 years since I started this blogging journey. At the time, I wasn’t sure that I would be able to keep it going. To be sure, some months I have posted more than others.
I’ve almost completed my MBA through Indiana Wesleyan University, which has taken most of my time lately. Once that is completed, I can hopefully have more time to dig into the details of my family that have yet to be discovered.
I’ve learned a lot about my family simply by putting the facts down in this blog. For many branches, I’m learning that I don’t have as much information as I thought I had. For branches closer to me, I’ve realized that over the years I’ve overlooked some basic genealogy 101-type information that I need to go back and document.
Thanks to Geneabloggers and the memes, I have been tried to keep current content. I’m better at posting Tombstone
The community of geneabloggers is a growing group, and I try to keep up with as many as I can through Google Reader. It has been neat to find connections with other bloggers who share distant ancestors.
This past year I’ve joined the Twitterverse and met and exchanged tweets with several of my fellow geneabloggers. I find Twitter very helpful in getting out the word on blog posts and furthering discussion in the community.
I hope that my “Family Milestone” posts are not too boring to people. Through them, I’ve managed to make contacts with a few far-flung relatives. In the coming year, I hope to add information about my wife’s side of the family as well.

My paternal 5th-great grandaunt, Beulah HAINES, married on this date in 1813 in Burlington County, New Jersey. Beulah was the daughter of Robert and Rachel (VENICOMB) HAINES, and the younger sister of my Hannah Haines. Joseph was the son of William and Elizabeth (ROGERS) DEACON. Hannah was born May 10, 1787 in Burlington County, New Jersey. Joseph was born June 1, 1774. They were the parents of 10 children. Joseph died November 17, 1855 near Mt. Holly, Burlington County, New Jersey. Beulah died January 5, 1832 in Burlington County, New Jersey.

My maternal 3rd-great granduncle, Albert Orland PIERCE, married on this date in 1884 in Wayne County, Indiana to Sarah S. WILSON. Albert was the son of Francis S. and Rebecca (PAGE) PIERCE, and the younger brother of my Edmund G. PIERCE. Sarah's parentage is unknown. Albert was born June 2, 1839 in Wayne County, Indiana. Sarah was born May 1844 in Indiana. Albert's 1st wife, Elizabeth Williams PIKE, passed away March 25, 1883 in Wayne County, Indiana. Albert and Sarah lived in Clay Township, Wayne County, Indiana, where Albert was a farmer. Albert was a veteran of the Civil War, serving in Company D, 8th Regiment of Indiana Infantry. Sarah died in 1928. Albert died in 1920. Both are buried in the Sugar Grove Cemetery, Wayne County, Indiana.

Tombstone Tuesday: Ralph J. and Ardis E. (LeMaster) Bickel
Ralph J. and Ardis Ellen (LeMASTER) BICKEL are buried in the Salamonia Cemetery, Madison Township, Jay County, Indiana. Ardis was my 1st cousin once removed.
Ralph J. was born June 12, 1929 in Delaware County, Indiana, the son of Ralph and Esta Mary (PREVOST) BICKEL.
Ardis Ellen was born January 20, 1931 in Cowan, Delaware County, Indiana, the daughter of John Leland and Dortha LeEtta (DeLAUTER) LeMASTER.
Ralph and Ardis were married on December 22, 1950. They had 3 children.
Ralph died February 28, 2008. Ardis died June 20, 1996.

Family MIlestones: April 19th
My maternal 4th-great grandparents, John T. BEALS and Mary DAVIS, were married on this date in 1848 in Westfield, Hamilton County, Indiana. John was born June 25, 1827 in Clinton County, Ohio, the son of Nathan C. and Elizabeth (CHEW) BEALS. Mary's birth was recorded 9th month, 9th day of 1825 at Holly Spring Monthly Meeting, Randolph County, North Carolina. They had 6 children and lived in Washington Township, Hamilton County, Indiana. John served in the 101st Regiment, Indiana Volunteers where he mustered out as a 1st Lieutenant. Mary died July 18, 1909 in Cicero, Hamilton County, Indiana. John died September 18, 1917 in Sheridan, Hamilton County, Indiana. Both are buried in the Summit Lawn Cemetery, Westfield, Hamilton County, Indiana.
My maternal great-grandaunt, Leona D. LAMBERTSON, married on this date in 1968 to Joseph CARPENTER. Leona was born August 20, 1904 in Hamilton County, Indiana, the daughter of Charles Wilson and Pearl May (BEALS) LAMBERTSON, and the younger sister of my Clemon Beals LAMBERTSON. Joseph was born December 22, 1907 in Windfall, Tipton County, Indiana, the son of Arthur and Myrtle (________) CARPENTER. Leona's first husband, Clarence Everett FETZ, had passed away in 1964. Joseph died April 29, 1968 in Elwood, Madison County, Indiana. Leona died July 12, 1988.
My paternal 3rd-great grandaunt, Elizabeth JACOBS, married on this date in 1842 in Wayne County, Ohio, to Joseph NEISWINDER. Elizabeth was the daughter of David and Barbara (BYERS) JACOBS, and the older sister of my Susan JACOBS. Elizabeth was born July 25, 1821 in Warrington Township, York County, Pennsylvania. I do not have dates of birth or death, nor parentage for Joseph. Elizabeth died March 23, 1893. Nothing further is known at this time.
My maternal 7th-great grandmother, Elizabeth SPOFFORD, was born on this date in 1715 in Boxford, Essex County, Massachusetts. Elizabeth was the daughter of Thomas and Bethiah (HAZELTINE) SPOFFORD. Elizabeth married December 18, 1734 in Deerfield, Hampshire County, Massachusetts to Bennett FIELD, son of John and Mary (BENNETT) FIELD. Bennett was born December 13, 1709 in Deerfield, Hampshire County, Massachusetts. They had at least 2 children. Bennett died April 6, 1770 in Mansfield, Windham County, Connecticut. Elizabeth died November 20, 1772 in Mansfield, Windham County, Connecticut.

They had 5 children. Abel died January 12, 1834 in Burlington County, New Jersey. Rachel died September 11, 1851 in Burlington County, New Jersey.
