Ladies who used lard probably mixed by hand.<br><br />Because Weldon remembered these cookies as large as saucers, I wonder if instead of rolling them in balls, Aunt Vera rolled out the dough on a flat surface, then cut them with a cookie or biscuit cutter (or, in the case of sauce size, with a bowl!).
