Today I finished sourcing the census data for the Hiram B. Harter family in the 1870, 1900 & 1910 census of Jay Co., IN. Hiram married my paternal 2nd-great grandaunt, Elizabeth Wehrly.

Ellsworth Haley Family - Jay & Adams Co., IN
Today I sourced the census records of the Ellsworth Haley family in the 1900-1920 census. Ellsworth was really George David Ellsworth Haley, son of George Washington and Mary Jane (Sherrick) Haley. In 1900 & 1910 he is in the city of Portland, Jay Co., IN and in 1920 he was living in Hartford Twp., Adams Co., IN.
Ellsworth and wife Nettie Premer had no children. Nettie's widowed mother Tamosine was living with them in the 1920 census. Ellsworth's occupation in 1900 was that of photographer; in 1910 he was a laborer in a factory; and in 1920 he was a minister in the Evangelical Methodist church.
I would love to find more about his photography career, as I have seen some older photographs that have his studio listed at my parents house.

Eli W. Haley Family - Jay Co., IN
Today I sourced the census data for the 1900-1920 census records for the Eli W. Haley family of Jay Co., IN. Of particular interest to me was the 1920 census, as that was the first record of my grandmother, Ruth, in the U.S. census.
Eli W. Haley was a farmer in Noble Twp., Jay Co., IN. during those years. I did find it interesting how the names of the children were sometimes listed. For instance, daughter Clara Elnora Haley was Nora C. in the 1910 census and Nora A. in the 1920 census - I've also heard her referred to as Nora.
The Haley family lived on Noble Pike in the 1920 census next door to the Miller family. In 1917, daughter Mary A. Haley married Galen Miller. It is interesting to see who my ancestor's neighbors were and see the connections between intermarriages.
Eli Weldon HALEY b. March 24, 1866 Erie Co., OH., d. June 14, 1957 Jay Co., IN., m. July 21, 1888 Jay Co., IN to Cora Belle METZNER, daughter of John Adam and Clara (MOULTON) METZNER. Cora b. September 1843 Licking Co., OH., d. July 2, 1899 Westchester, Jay Co., IN.

Robert E. Kimble Family - Jay Co., IN
Today I sourced the census entry for the Robert E. Kimble family in the 1900 census of Noble, Twp., Jay Co., IN. Robert married my widowed 2nd-great grandmother, Mary Jane (Sherrick) Haley on May 8, 1897 in Jay Co., IN.
The census record clearly showed Robert's middle initial as 'E', but I've seen it listed as 'N' as well on the marriage record. His son John W. Kimble was also living with them in the 1900 census. Robert's occupation was that of a farmer, his father was born in New York and his mother was born in Ohio.

Benjamin H. Haley Family - Erie Co., OH
Today I've sourced the data for the Benjamin H. Haley family in the 1900-1920 census of Erie Co., OH. Benjamin is my paternal 2nd-great granduncle, and the son of George J. & Rachel (Gary) Haley.
Benjamin H. HALEY b. June 1858 Ohio, d. after 1920 census, m. before 1880 Louisa HUTTENBOCKER. Louisa b. March 1860 Ohio, d. after 1920 census. Benjamin's occupation was listed as either farmer or laborer in a fish house.
I learned of the existence of a grandson, Wellman Pippenger in the 1920 census, and the fact that daughter Eva was divorced, at least by 1920, if not by 1910 census. I need to track down the children in the later census records. The family also apparently bounced back and forth between Ohio and Jay Co., IN - also daughter Bessie shows born in Tennessee.
Known children of Benjamin H. and Louisa (Huttenbocker) Haley :

Dear Mr. LeMaster:
Dear Mr. LeMaster:
I found your website listing Thomas W. Groenendyke, 69th Indiana Volunteer Infantry, and wanted to let you know about a book just published about the 69th. It contains a short work written by Thomas and read at the reunion in 1897. He wrote about a friend and comrade who died at the Battle of Richmond, Kentucky, in 1862. There is also a letter written by him from Lynn Haven, Florida, in 1912.
I am attaching a PDF file with more information and an order blank.

Carey H. Gilliland Family - Hamilton Co., OH
Today I sourced the census record for the Carey H. Gilliland family in the 1860 census of Hamilton Co., OH. Carey married my 3rd-great grandaunt Elizabeth W. Lambertson.
The census taker liked to use initials instead of names, as Carey is 'C.H.' and Elizabeth is 'E.W.' on this particular census. Elizabeth died October 11, 1860, so this was the last census record for her. I have not yet tracked Carey and the children beyond the 1860 census to find out where else they appeared.

August Gegenheimer Family - Jay Co., IN
Today I sourced the census data for the August Gegenheimer family in Jay Co., IN for the 1900-1920 census. August married my 2nd-great aunt Sarah C. Haley. In 1900 and 1910 he was living in Wabash Twp. but by 1920 they had moved to Wayne Twp. in Jay County.
August was a farmer and immigrated from Germany in either 1838 or 1858, depending on the census year. I tend to believe it was the 1838 year. Sarah's mother is listed as being born in Ohio on two census years, and then in Pennsylvania on the third. Sarah is the mother of 10 children, all living by the time of the 1910 census, but so far I only have the names of five in my database.
There is much more to discover about this family - not only the names of 5 children, but whether or not August was a Civil War vet. The family moved to Indiana before 1885, so they may be in the 1880 census either in Indiana or Ohio.
August Gegenheimer b. November 1842 Germany, d. after 1920 census, m. ca. 1865 to Sarah C. HALEY. Sarah C. Haley b. November 1845 Ohio, d. after 1920 census.

Thomas A. Fox Family - Madison Co., IN
Today I sourced the census records I found for the Thomas A. Fox family of Madison Co., IN. Thomas was married to my 2nd great-aunt, Daisy L. Wright. I discovered a few interesting facts that I didn't know previously by looking at the census records in 1900 & 1910 in Van Buren & Pipe Creek Twps., respectively, of Madison Co., IN.
First off, Thomas' name was not Thompson, as I originally had in my notes. In the 1900 census, he states both of his parents were born in North Carolina - in 1910, his father is born in Indiana and his mother was from North Carolina. Also, one daughter appears as Helen L. in the 1900 census and then as Laura H. in the 1910 census.
I do not have a record yet of the family in the 1920 census. By 1930, Daisy is a widow, so Thomas must have died between 1910-1930, probably in Madison Co., IN.
