Aunt Vera's Diary - January 18th

In the summer of 2019, I was able to photograph the entries in the diary of my maternal great-aunt, Vera (Haley) Stuber.  The entries cover the years from 1968-1971 time frame and provide an interesting view of her daily activities. Items in brackets are my notes for further research.

1968 - January 18th - Thursday

Did usual house work.  Hittle came tried to pick corn but too much snow.

1969 - January 19th - Saturday

Had a spell with my stomach this A.M.

1970 - January 19th - Sunday

Snowed again last night and very cold today.  We didn't get to church.

1971 - January 19th - Monday

Not doing much these days.  Rev. Ballmer here this P.M.

Vera Delphene (Haley) Stuber was born 10 March 1890 in Jay County, Indiana, daughter of Eli Weldon & Cora Belle (Metzner) Haley.  She married 14 February 1915 in Jay County, Indiana to Clarence Leroy Stuber.  Vera died 17 June 1987 in Portland, Jay County, Indiana. Clarence was born 4 February 1891 in Jay County, Indiana, son of Henry and Margaret (Metzger) Stuber.  Clarence died 20 May 1981 in Portland, Jay County, Indiana.  They had no surviving children.

Aunt Vera's Diary - January 17th

1968 - January 17th - Wednesday

Warming up a little today, but still plenty of snow.  Hittle was here this P.M.  Clarence & he did some settling up.

1969 - January 17th - Friday

Cleaned up house some.  Snowy again today. Plow went thru twice.  Mail man came today.

1970 - January 17th - Saturday

So foggy all day.  Shells took us to Alma's funeral, first I had been out since the 28th of Dec.  [Believe this is the Alma M. Bash (1889-1970) buried at Mount Zion Cemetery https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/102079763/alma-m_-bash)

1971 - January 17th - Sunday

Didn't get to church, still have bad colds.  So hoarse and cough so hard.

1968 - January 16th - Tuesday

Ironed today.  Snow plow went thru again.  Mail came.  Not as cold this evening.

1969 - January 16th - Thursday

Did usual work

1970 - January 16th - Friday

Did some cleaning.  Clarence went to Recovery in the P.M.

1971 - January 16th - Saturday

We still have colds.  Cold today and snowing some this evening.
