Aunt Vera's Diary - February 8th

In the summer of 2019, I was able to photograph the entries in the diary of my maternal great-aunt, Vera (Haley) Stuber.  The entries cover the years from 1968-1971 time frame and provide an interesting view of her daily activities. Items in brackets are my notes for further research.

1968 - February 8th 

We looked over cards about all day for Ruth Matchett.  Hittle here this P.M.  Had snow flurries today.

1969 - February 8th - Saturday

Dreary all forenoon.  Began raining turned to snow and still snowing this evening.

1970 - February 8th - Sunday

Attended church this A.M.  Pauls were here awhile this P.M.

1971 - February 8th - Monday

A cold, windy & snowy day.  We washed.  The Bierys were here inquiring about the farm.

Vera Delphene (Haley) Stuber was born 10 March 1890 in Jay County, Indiana, daughter of Eli Weldon & Cora Belle (Metzner) Haley.  She married 14 February 1915 in Jay County, Indiana to Clarence Leroy Stuber.  Vera died 17 June 1987 in Portland, Jay County, Indiana. Clarence was born 4 February 1891 in Jay County, Indiana, son of Henry and Margaret (Metzger) Stuber.  Clarence died 20 May 1981 in Portland, Jay County, Indiana.  They had no surviving children.

Aunt Vera's Diary - February 7th

1968 - February 7th - Wednesday

Clarence went for beef at Recovery got hind quarter $0.52 per lb.  Attended prayer meeting in eve.

1969 - February 7th - Friday

Cleaned up the house and defrosted refrigerator.  Clarence went to Recovery for groceries.

1970 - Februay 7th - Saturday

Baked cherry and cream pies.

1971 - February 7th - Sunday

Clarence went to church this morning.  I haven't ventured out yet.  Trying to snow some today and getting colder.

1968 - February 6th - Tuesday

Ironed.  Clarence went to Recovery to see about getting car worked on.

1969 - February 6th - Thursday

Clarence sprouted potatoes.

1970 - February 6th - Friday

Did some cleaning.  Clarence went to Portland, took his auto test.

1971 - February 6th - Saturday

Did usual work.  Nice winter day, man came for rest of straw.  Hittle was here.
