From my research at the Madison County, Indiana clerk's office, I was able to obtain a copy of the marriage license application for my maternal 2
nd-great grandaunt, Jessie 
PENNISTEN and her husband, Lawrence SPENCE.  Both were spinsters - he was 55 and she was 50 when they were married - first marriages for both.  Lawrence had been a career military man.
