Trying to gather information on more recent generations and helping to share family memories, photos and stay connected - I created a Facebook group page for descendants of my paternal 2nd-great grandparents, Charles Wilson Lambertson and Pearl May Beals.

Charles Wilson Lambertson (b. 25 Jan 1872 Preble Co., OH; d. 24 May 1958 Elwood, Madison Co., IN) & Pearl May Beals (b. 11 May 1878 Westfield, Hamilton Co., IN; d. 3 Aug 1970 Elwood, Madison Co., IN) were married 18 Apr 1897 at Cicero, Hamilton Co., IN.

They were the parents of the following children:

The Ultimate Sacrifice

Today in the United States it is Memorial Day, a day to remember and recognize those who have given the ultimate sacrifice while in military service to our country.  

Looking through my RootsMagic database, I found the following individuals who gave the ultimate sacrifice (undoubtably, not a complete list) :

• Daniel Beals (1822-1863), died in Louisville, KY while a member of Company A, 101st Indiana Infantry during the Civil War.  He was the son of Nathan C. & Elizabeth (Chew) Beals, making him my maternal 4th-great granduncle.
• Samuel Chew (c1743-1778), died in Connecticut during the Revolutionary War while serving in the Continental Navy.  He was the son of Thomas & Martha (Taylor) Chew, making him my maternal 7th-great granduncle. The USS Chew was named in his honor.
• Joseph Davis ( -1777), died in New York City after capture by the British on 13 Feb 1777, while serving in the 1st Regiment out of Monmouth, New Jersey.  He was the son of Thomas & Bethia (Maxson) Davis, making him my paternal 1st cousin 8 times removed.
• Johann Jacob Deutsch (1821-1863), died of yellow fever while serving in Company D, 13th Connecticut Infantry during the Civil War.  He was the 4th-great grandfather of my daughter, Corinne.
• John W. Duffey (1845-1863), died at Cumberland Gap while serving in Company G, 118th Indiana Infantry during the Civil War.  He was the son of Daniel L. & Susanna (Freese) Duffey, making him Eileen's 2nd-great granduncle.
• John Wesley King (1837-1865), died at Paducah, Kentucky while serving in Company G, 17th Indiana Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War.  He was the son of William & Nancy (Owings) King, making him my maternal 3rd-great granduncle.
• John Cooper LeMaster (1934-1953), Marine Pfc., killed in action in Korea.  He was the son of Donald Cooper & Luella (Gibbons) LeMaster, making him my paternal 2nd cousin.
• Gurdon Lord Pierce (1841-1864), died at Cold Harbor while serving as Lt. of Company C, 112th New York Volunteers.  He was the son of Austin & Mary Ann (Sterlin) Pierce, making him my maternal 1st cousin 5 times removed.
• Reuben Sherman (1845-1864), died at Andersonville Prison while serving in 135th Ohio Infantry.  He was the son of Lorenzo & Sophia (Moulton) Sherman, making him my paternal 1st cousin 4 times removed.
• Frederick Charles Wildt (1921-1944), killed in action 20 Jul 1944 in France.  He was the son of Arthur & Anna Magdalena (Damm) Wildt, making him Corinne's great-granduncle.

Looking over this list, I am honored by their sacrifice and proud of their history.  Though I have the service records for some, there are many in this list that I need to document their time in service.

Guy Bowman household, 1940, Wabash County, Indiana

Located the 1940 census record of the Guy Bowman household in Wabash County, Indiana.  Guy was the husband of my maternal 3rd cousin 3 times removed, Geraldine.  Our common ancestors were Nathan C. Beals and Elizabeth Chew.  Guy's parentage is unknown at this time to me.  Geraldine's parents were William Otto Little and Bertha Jane Means.

At the time of the enumeration, the family was living in Waltz Township.  The census states that Guy owned his home and that the value was $2000.  Guy was 35 years old and born in Indiana.  His wife, Geraldine, was 31 years old and also born in Indiana.  Their residence in 1935 was the same place.

The record shows that Guy had completed 4 years of high school and was a school bus driver and store operator.  His wife, Geraldine, had completed 2 years of college but had no occupation listed.

Also living in the household were daughter Pamela, age 4, born in Indiana, and son Gary H., age 8 months, born in Indiana.

George B. Crawford household, 1940, Yuma County, Arizona

Located the 1940 census record of the George B. Crawford household in Yuma County, Arizona.  George was my maternal 6th cousin 3 times removed.  Our common ancestors were John Beals and Sarah Bowater.  George's parents were George Newton Crawford and Mary Elizabeth Birdwell.

At the time of the enumeration, George was living in the city of Yuma. The census states that George was renting his home for $10 per month.  George was 42 years old and was born in Texas.  His wife, Emma, was 37 years old and born in Texas.  Their residence in 1935 was the same place.

The record shows that both George and Emma had completed the 6th grade in education. George's occupation was listed as Track Works, S P Railroad [Southern Pacific], while Emma's occupation was listed as Housework in a private home.

Also living in the household were son Jack, age 19, born in Texas, working for Coca Cola delivery; son Elmer, age 17, born in Oklahoma, working as Messenger for Western Union; and son Wayne, age 15, born in Oklahoma, a student.

Arthur Bevan household, 1940, Kiowa County, Kansas

Located the 1940 census record of the Arthur Bevan household in Kiowa County, Kansas.  Arthur was my maternal 3rd cousin 4 times removed.  Our common ancestors were Aaron Mills and Charity Mendenhall. He was also my 6th cousin 4 times removed through John Beals and Mary Clayton, and my 7th cousin 4 times removed (3 times) through William Clayton and Prudence Lanckford.  Arthur's parents were Stacy Bevan and Sarah Beals.

At the time of the enumeration, Arthur and his wife were living in the town of Haviland.  The census states that Arthur owned his home and the value was $1500 and it was a farm.  Arthur was 63 years old and born in Iowa.  His wife, Madge, was 60 years old and born in Indiana.  In 1935, their residence was the same place.

The record showed that Arthur had completed the 7th grade and that Madge had completed 4 years of high school. Neither of them had an occupation listed in the census.

According to my database, they had at least one son, Herman Lewis Bevan.

Homer H. Beals household, 1940, Hamilton County, Indiana

Located the 1940 census record of the Homer H. Beals household in Hamilton County, Indiana.  Homer is my maternal 3rd cousin 4 times removed.  Our common ancestors are John Beals and Mary Carter.  He is also my 7th cousin 4 times removed (3 times!) through William Clayton and Prudence Lanckford.  Homer's parents were Thomas Elwood Beals and Eliza Matilda Hodgin.

At the time of the enumeration, Homer and his wife were living in Ward 2 of the city of Noblesville.  The census states that Homer owned his home and that the value was $5000 and it was not on a farm.  Homer was 65 years old and born in Indiana.  His wife, Mabel, was aged 60 and also born in Indiana.  In 1935, their residence was the same place.

The record shows that Homer had completed the 8th grade and that Mabel had completed 4 years of college.  Neither Homer or Mabel had an occupation listed at the time of the census.

Also living in the household was their son, Lyndon, age 29, born in Indiana who had completed 1 year of college.  His occupation was listed as cashier for the newspaper.

Edward E. Beals household, 1940, Hamilton County, Indiana

Located the 1940 census record of the Edward E. Beals household in Hamilton County, Indiana.  Edward was my maternal 3rd cousin 4 times removed.   Our common ancestors were John Beals and Mary Carter.  We are also 7th cousins 4 times removed (3 times!) through common ancestors William Clayton and Prudence Lanckford.  Edward's parents were Thomas Elwood Beals and Eliza Matilda Hodgin.

At the time of the enumeration, Edward and his wife were living in Jackson Township.  The census states that Edward owned his home and the value was $16,500 and he lived on a farm.  Edward was 64 years old and born in Indiana.  His wife, Bertha, was 63 years old and also born in Indiana.  In 1935 there residence was the same place.

The record shows that Edward had completed the 8th grade and that Bertha had also completed the 8th grade.  Edward's occupation was listed simply as owner of the farm, while Bertha had no occupation listed.

Also listed in the household was Edward's father, Thomas, age 89, a widower born in Indiana, who had completed the 8th grade.  Thomas' occupation was as listed as owner of the farm.  Additionally, two farm hands were listed in the household - Henry Wood, age 61, born in Indiana, and Robert Ross, age 25, born in Indiana.

Shaky Leaves : Daniel S. Albright (1827-1892)

Daniel S. Albright (1827-1892) is my maternal 4th-great granduncle, the husband of Sarah Beals.  Ancestry.com is currently showing my 8 hints for him in my LeMaster & Allied Families member tree from historical records.

One record was from the database Indiana, Marriage Collection, 1800-1941.

This data matches what I have for Daniel and Sarah in my RootsMagic database, though I didn't have a source listed.  The collection at Ancestry references the WPA.  I will need to search in Howard County to obtain an actual copy.

Another database was the U.S., Find A Grave Index, 1600s-current.

Following the outside link took me to Daniel's memorial page at FindAGrave, which lists his parents and gives complete birth and death date.  It also confirms his Civil War service.

Another database was U.S., National Homes for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers, 1866-1938.

This record shows that in 1891, Daniel was living in Marion, Grant County, Indiana at the home for disabled veterans.

His birthplace was listed as Tennessee, he was 64 years old, 5'10" tall, with a fair complexion and black eyes and grey hair.  His occupation was listed as a mason.  His residence subsequent to discharge was Xenia, Indiana and his nearest relative was Mrs. Sarah Albright of Xenia.  Xenia is the former name of today's Converse, Indiana.

Daniel's rate of pension was $17.00.  He was admitted July 21, 1891 and discharged June 3, 1892 by his own request.  His pension certificate was number 103.803.

Other database records included the 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880 census in Howard County, Indiana which listed Daniel.  These were added to my Family Member Tree after making sure they had been updated in my RootsMagic database.  In each of these, Daniel's birth place was listed as Tennessee.  In 1870 they were living at Fairfield and in 1880 they were in Xenia.

Exploratory Data Analysis : Nathan Thomas Beals (1856-1915)

Nathan Thomas Beals (1856-1915) was my maternal 3rd-great grandfather. What follows is an exploratory analysis of the biographical data I have discovered about him.

1. Vital Records

     1.1. Birth Certificate

          Nathan's birth occurred on the 2nd day of the 7th month in 1856¹.  The Beals genealogy states that his birth occurred at Westfield, Hamilton County, Indiana¹. Indiana did not require birth certificates until 1907.

          1.1.1. Birth Notice in Newspaper

               If Nathan's birth was recorded in the newspaper, I've not located it yet.  Will need to check with local archives and state archives to see if they have any newspapers of the time period.

          1.1.2. Bible Record

               I am not aware of any surviving Beals family Bible that might record his birth.  Will continue to reach out to extended family in hopes that one might be found.

          1.1.3. Baptismal Record

               I am not aware of any baptismal record for Nathan.  The family was members of the Society of Friends (Quaker) church.

          1.1.4. Adoption Record

               There is no indication that Nathan was adopted.

     1.2. Marriage License

          Nathan married Elizabeth Caroline Poe on September 26, 1876 in Hamilton County, Indiana².  Elizabeth was born September 26, 1856 in Morgan County, Indiana.  They raised three daughters in Hamilton County, Indiana and Richardson County, Nebraska.  Elizabeth died September 27, 1935 near Greentown, Howard County, Indiana.

          1.2.1 Marriage Notice in Newspaper

               Will need to search contemporary newspaper accounts to see if mention was made of Nathan and Elizabeth's nuptials.

          1.2.2. Anniversary Notice

               Nathan and Elizabeth's 25th wedding anniversary would have been September 26, 1901.  Will need to search contemporary newspaper accounts to see if there was any mention of any anniversary celebration.  Will add this to my list of "to-do" items for my next research trip.

          1.2.3. Divorce Decree

               Though there is no indication of divorce, will need to search court records in Hamilton County, Indiana to be sure there aren't records I've missed.  Will add this to my list of "to-do" items for my next research trip.

     1.3. Death Certificate

          Nathan died February 16, 1915 in Leola, Grant County, Arkansas, according to his obituary³.  I've been unable to find a copy of his death certificate in online searches in Arkansas.  Letters to the local historical society have not provided information either.

          1.3.1. Obituary in Newspaper

               Nathan's obituary appeared in the February 19, 1915 edition of the Sheridan News³.  I've previously blogged about his obituary here.

          1.3.2. Funeral Home Records

               I need to check with the local historical society to see what funeral home handled Nathan's arrangements.  The funeral was held in Cicero at the M.E. church.  Will add this to my list of "to-do" items for my next research trip.

          1.3.3. Tombstone Photograph

               Nathan's tombstone in the Cicero Cemetery in Cicero, Indiana has been photographed⁴.  The link to his memorial at FindAGrave is here.

2. Census Records

     2.1. Federal Census Records

          2.1.1. 1910 Federal Census

               On April 16, 1910, Nathan was enumerated as head of household in Jackson Township, Hamilton County, Indiana⁵, as Nathan T. Beals, age 53.  He had been married for 33 years, and his occupation was listed as a lumber yard superintendent.  He was born in Indiana, his father was born in Indiana and his mother born in North Carolina.

          2.1.2. 1900 Federal Census

               On June 1, 1900, Nathan was enumerated as head of household in Jackson Township, Hamilton County, Indiana⁶, as Nathan T. Beals, age 44, married for 24 years, and his occupation was listed as a dealer in hardware.  He was born in Indiana, his father was born in Ohio and his mother born in North Carolina.

          2.1.3. 1880 Federal Census

               On June 12, 1880, Nathan was enumerated as head of household in Humboldt, Richardson County, Nebraska⁷, as Nathan Beales, age 24, married, and his occupation was listed as farmer.  He was born in Indiana, his father was born in Ohio, and his mother born in North Carolina.

          2.1.4. 1870 Federal Census

               On August 19, 1870, Nathan was enumerated in the John Beals household in Washington Township, Hamilton County, Indiana⁸, as Nathan T. Beals, age 14, working on the farm.  He was born in Indiana.

          2.1.5. 1860 Federal Census

               On June 19, 1860, Nathan was enumerated in the John Bales household in Washington Township, Hamilton County, Indiana⁹, as Nathan T. Bales, age 4, born in Indiana.

     2.2. State Census Records

          On June 4, 1885, Nathan was enumerated as head of household in Humboldt, Richardson County, Nebraska¹⁰, as N.T. Beals, age 29, school teacher, born in Indiana.

          The State of Indiana conducted state census in 1853, 1857, 1871, 1877, 1883, 1889, 1901, 1913, 1919 and 1931.  These, however, were merely for the purposes of legislative apportionment.

     2.3. Agricultural Census Records

          I have not yet investigated these types of census records to see what information might be shed on the Beals farm.

3. Military Records

     3.1. Draft Registration

          Not applicable.

     3.2. Pension Records

          I have not found any evidence that Nathan was to receive pension benefits.

     3.3. Service Records

          I have not found any evidence of military service by Nathan.

4. Land Records

     4.1. Deed Records

          Deed records need to be thoroughly searched in Hamilton County, Indiana and Richardson County, Nebraska.

     4.2. Plat map / county map

           Plat maps in Hamilton County, Indiana and Richardson County, Nebraska need to be thoroughly searched to see what information they might contain about the Beals family.

5. Supplemental Records

     Supplemental records available for research on Nathan include city/county directories, court records and will and probate records.  Will add these to my list of "to-do" items for my next research trip.

Exploratory Data Analysis : Elizabeth Caroline (Poe) Beals (1856-1935)

Elizabeth Caroline (Poe) Beals (1856-1935) was my maternal 3rd-great grandmother.  What follows is an exploratory analysis of the biographical data I have discovered about her.


1. Vital Records

     1.1. Birth Certificate

          Elizabeth was born September 28, 1856 in Morgan County, Indiana¹.  The State of Indiana did not require birth certificates until 1907.

          1.1.1. Birth Notice in Newspaper

               If Elizabeth's birth was recorded in a newspaper, I've not located it yet.  Will need to check with local libraries and state archives to see if they have any newspapers from the time period.

          1.1.2. Bible Record

               I'm not aware of any surviving Poe family Bible that might record her birth.  Will continue to reach out to extended family in hopes that one can be located.

          1.1.3. Baptismal Record

               I am not aware of any baptismal record for Elizabeth.  The family were members of the Society of Friends (Quaker) church.

          1.1.4. Adoption Record

               There is no indication that Elizabeth was adopted.

          Elizabeth married Nathan Thomas Beals on September 26, 1876 in Hamilton County, Indiana².  Nathan was born February 17, 1856 in Westfield, Hamilton County, Indiana.  They raised three daughters in Hamilton County, Indiana and Richardson County, Nebraska.  Nathan died February 16, 1915 in Leola, Grant County, Arkansas.

          1.2.1 Marriage Notice in Newspaper

               Will need to search contemporary newspaper accounts to see if mention was made of Elizabeth and Nathan's nuptials.

          1.3.1. Obituary in Newspaper

               Elizabeth's obituary appeared in the September 28, 1935 edition of the Tipton, Indiana Daily Tribune³.  The cause of death was listed as paralysis and the obituary stated that she died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Lambertson.   This obituary was the subject of a previous post.

              Elizabeth's obituary appeared in the September 30, 1935 edition of the Noblesville, Indiana Daily Ledger⁴.

          1.3.2. Funeral Home Records

               Will need to search for funeral home records at the local historical society to see if there is any more information I can obtain about Elizabeth's funeral.  Will add this to my list of "to-do" items for my next research trip.

              On April 22, 1930, Elizabeth was enumerated as head of household in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana⁶ as Elizabeth Beals, age 73, widow.  She was renting her home for $23.00 per month.  Also living in the household were her daughter, Nellie Stober, aged 40, widow, and her granddaughter, Ruby Stober, aged 16, single.  Her address was 1963 Tallman Avenue.  Elizabeth could read and write and spoke English.  She was born in Indiana, her father was born in North Carolina and her mother was born in Indiana.

          2.1.2. 1920 Federal Census

               On January 27, 1920, Elizabeth was enumerated in the Marion Blanton household in Jackson Township, Hamilton County, Indiana⁷, as Elizabeth Beals, age 63, widowed, servant.  Elizabeth could read and write and speak English.  She was born in Indiana, as were both of her parents.

          2.1.3. 1910 Federal Census

               On April 16, 1910, Elizabeth was enumerated in the Nathan T. Beals household in Cicero, Jackson Township, Hamilton County, Indiana⁸, as Elizabeth C. Beals, wife, age 52.  She had been married for 33 years, and was the mother of 1 child who was still living.  She was born in Indiana, as were both of her parents.

          2.1.4. 1900 Federal Census

                On June 1, 1900, Elizabeth was enumerated in the Nathan T. Beals household in Jackson Township, Hamilton County, Indiana⁹, as Elizabeth C. Beals, wife, born September 1856 in Indiana.  She had been married 24 years and was the mother of 3 children, 2 of whom were living.  Her father was born in South Carolina and her mother in Indiana.  She could read and write and spoke English.

          2.1.5. 1880 Federal Census

               On June 12, 1880, Elizabeth was enumerated in the Nathan Beales household in Humboldt, Richardson County, Nebraska¹⁰, as Elizabeth Beales, wife, age 24, born Indiana.  Her father was born in Indiana and her mother was born in North Carolina.

          2.1.6. 1870 Federal Census

               On August 17, 1870, Elizabeth was enumerated in the Isaac S. Poe household in Washington Township, Hamilton County, Indiana¹¹, as Elizabeth Poe, age 13, born in Indiana.  She had attended school within the year.

          2.1.7. 1860 Federal Census

               On August 3, 1860, Elizabeth was enumerated in the Isaac Poe household in Monroe Township, Morgan County, Indiana¹², as Elizabeth Poe, age 3, female, born in Indiana.

     2.2. State Census Records

          On June 4, 1885, Elizabeth was enumerated in the N.T. Beals household in Humboldt, Richardson County, Nebraska¹³, as Elizabeth Beals, age 28, wife. 

     2.3. Agricultural Census Records

          I have not yet investigated these types of census records to see what light they might shed on the Beals family.

     3.1. Draft Registration

          Not applicable, as Elizabeth was female.

     3.2. Pension Records

          Elizabeth's father, Isaac S. Poe, served during the Civil War in Co E, 12th Indiana Infantry.  I need to check and see if she received any benefits as a result of his service.

          Not applicable, as Elizabeth was female.

          Deed records need to be thoroughly searched in Hamilton County, Indiana and Richardson County, Nebraska to see what records might mention Elizabeth.  Will add this to my list of "to-do" items for my next research trip.

Church Record Sunday : Beals Family, Westfield MM, Hamilton County, Indiana

My maternal 4th-great grandparents, John and Mary (Davis) Beals, were members of the Westfield Monthly Meeting of the Society of Friends (Quakers) in Hamilton County, Indiana.  Quaker membership records and monthly meeting minutes are available at Ancestry.com.

The record card of the family states:

John Beals, born Ohio, 6th month, 26th day, 1827; son of Nathan and Elizabeth Beals; received upon request at Westfield Monthly Meeting, married Mary Davis.
Mary Beals, born Holly Springs, North Carolina, 9th month, 9th day, 1825; daughter of John and Mary Davis; birthright member of Holly North Carolina Monthly Meeting, married John Beals.
Mary A. Beals, born Westfield, Indiana, 3rd month, 27th day, 1859; daughter of John and Mary Beals; received upon request at Westfield Monthly Meeting, released by letter.
John F. Beals, born Westfield, Indiana, 9th month, 21st day, 1866; son of John and Mary Beals; received upon request at Westfield Monthly Meeting.

Some slight differences discovered in this membership record.  John Beals birth date is recorded as the 26th day, while in the genealogy Chronology of the Beals Family, which he wrote, he gave his birth date as the 25th.  John was not a birthright member of the Friends church, although his father (Nathan C. Beals) had been one, but he had been disowned.  Mary (Davis) Beals birth date matches what I have in my database, her parents John and Mary (Barker) Davis had moved from North Carolina to Indiana.

Of the children of John and Mary (Davis) Beals listed in this membership, Mary, John F. and Nathan Thomas, I have just a couple of updates to my data.  The birth date for John F. is listed as the 21st, when I had it as the 9th in my database, without a source, so there is one correction to make.  Nathan Thomas was in my database being born on the 17th, without a source as well.  So there are two corrections/updates to make.

Elizabeth Poe who married Nathan Thomas Beals was a birthright member of the Society from Whitelick Monthly Meeting in Morgan County, Indiana.  Her parents were Isaac and Hannah (Mills) Poe.

The listings of the children of Nathan T. and Elizabeth (Poe) Beals is a bit confusing.  Pearley May Beals was my 2nd-great grandmother, Pearl May Beals, who married Charles Wilson Lambertson.  I only show three daughters in the family of Nathan T. and Elizabeth (Poe) Beals : Pearl May (1878), Nellie Myrtle (1880) and Ethel Mable (1885).  This record gives the birth date of Pearl as 1877, when I show it was May 11, 1878.  I show Nellie born August 30, 1880 and Ethel born November 27, 1885.  This church membership record gives no birth dates for either Nellie or Ethel, but adds a Maggie Beals, born September 1880.   Did they confuse Nellie's middle name as Maggie and have her birthdate off by a month, or could there have been another daughter, possibly a twin of Nellie?  Being born August 30th, it's not a stretch to think the date could be recorded as September, especially since the birth took place in Nebraska and the membership role was created after the fact.  More mysteries.

Not all of John and Mary (Davis) Beals' children are listed in this record.  Left out are Elizabeth (b. 1849), Emma (b. 1851) and Sarah (b. 1854).  I do not know if they were ever members of the Society of Friends.

DNA : Mom's Cousin Linda

Corresponding recently with mom's DNA match, Linda, with whom I share no DNA.  Linda matches mom on only one segment, chromosome 1, and is predicted to be a 3rd to 6th cousin, according to 23andMe.

When I contacted Linda and shared my family tree at Ancestry, she wrote back and thought that we might be related on the Caldwell line.  Linda sent me a link to her Ancestry tree as well.  Her Caldwell line comes from Andrew Caldwell who died 1759 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.  Mom's line, however, comes from an Andrew Caldwell who died 1758 in Frederick County, Virginia.  While there might be a connection further back, this did not appear to be where we connected.

Looking at Linda's tree, I discovered that she had a branch that ended with Ruth Hunt (1745-1767) who married Thomas Thornburgh (1743-1788).  Her Ruth Hunt was born 1745 in Loudon County, Virginia and died January 20, 1767 in Rowan County, North Carolina.  This matches up with the Quaker relative of my mother, Ruth Hunt, daughter of Thomas Hunt (1723-1763) and Ann Beals (1720-1790), members of the New Garden MM, Society of Friends.  Ann Beals was the daughter of John Beals (1685-1745) and Sarah Bowater (1689-bef1767), my mother's 7th-great grandparents.

If this is the connection, it would make Linda and mom 8th cousins twice removed.  The DNA recombination might be a bit higher because I noticed that Linda had Osborn relatives as well, and mom has Quaker Osborn ancestors as well.

I've sent Linda some information today and I'm hoping we can continue the discussion to confirm the connections.

Marriage Record : Leslie Lemuel Beals and Anna Arline Weil, Hamilton County, Indiana, 1920

Located the marriage license application for my maternal 3rd cousin 4 times removed, Leslie Lemuel Beals and Anna Arline Weil in Hamilton County, Indiana at Familysearch.org.

Leslie was the son of John Wilson Beals and Magnora Perry.  Anna was the daughter of Bernard Weil and Emma Rose.

Leslie was born August 31, 1890 in Hamilton County, Indiana and resided in Noblesville. He was working as a mechanic. Though this is the first marriage I've discovered for him, he had been previously married and that marriage ended by divorce in 1919.

Anna was born January 28, 1897 in Hamilton County, Indiana and resided in Nobelsville.  She was working as a clerk.

Their marriage took place on July 31, 1920 in Hamilton County.

Robert Canaday (1777-1836), Wayne County, Indiana

Working on filling in some gaps in my database by utilizing the "Indiana Marriages, 1811-1959" database at Familysearch.org to see what updates and corrections I could find.

Robert Canaday (1777-1836) was the son of John Canaday and Margaret Thornburgh.  His second marriage to Sarah Sumner (1788-1865) on September 15, 1827 in Wayne County, Indiana was found in the database.  Prior to this find, I did not have the date or place of their marriage.  Sarah was the sister of Robert's first wife, Amy.

Margaret Canaday (1797-1871), Wayne County, Indiana

Margaret Canaday (1797-1871) was the daughter of Charles Canaday and Sarah Russell.  Her marriage to James Harvey on October 12, 1820 in Wayne County, Indiana was located in the database.  Prior to this find, I had a different date for their marriage.

Lyndsey Canaday (1829-1920), Wayne County, Indiana

Lyndsey Canaday (1829-1920), was the son of Robert Canaday and Sarah Sumner.  His marriage license to Mary Elizabeth Gibson on October 27, 1856 in Wayne County, Indiana was found in the database.  There was no return of the marriage.  Prior to this find, I did not have any potential dates for their marriage. Lyndsey's surname is also spelled Kennedy in the record.
