Basil McDermitt household - Madison Co., IN
The Basil McDERMITT household was enumerated in the 1930 census of Monroe Twp., Madison Co., IN under the surname McDERMOTT. Basil was married to Helen WRIGHT, daughter of James and Clara (HICKS) WRIGHT, and my 1st cousin three times removed. They also were my neighbors when I was growing up, and I remember them fondly. Their house was right across from ours, which in the 1930 census was where my great-grandfather, Virgil Wright was residing.
Basil was a 27 year old farmer who was renting his home. Helen was a housewife, aged 21 years old. Both had been born in Indiana, as were their parents. They had apparently been married for 5 years, as Helen was 16 when she was married. Living with them was their son, Basil Jr., aged 4 years and 8 months old.
Basil O. McDERMITT b. ca. 1903 Boone Twp., Madison Co., IN., d. August 21, 1987 Anderson, Madison Co., IN., m. ca. 1925 to Helen WRIGHT, daughter of James and Clara (HICKS) WRIGHT. Helen b. May 21, 1908 Alexandria, Madison Co., IN., d. March 18, 1995 Anderson, Madison Co., IN. Both are buried in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Alexandria.
