Shaky Leaves : Richard Alderman household, 1870 census Madison County, Indiana

Working through more of the shaky leaf hints at Ancestry.com for my LeMaster & Allied Families Tree and updated the record of the 1870 census in Richland Township, Madison County, Indiana for my maternal 4th-great grandfather, Richard Alderman and his family.

1870 US Census, Madison County, Indiana, population schedule, Richland Township, page 25, dwelling 165, family 165, ; digital images, Ancestry.com (www.ancestry.com : accessed 20 December 2015); National Archives, Washington, D.C..

Richard was enumerated as "R. Alderman", a 60 year old toll gate operator, born in Kentucky.  He was a U.S. citizen and the value of his personal estate was $350.  Though relationship were not specified in 1870, the other members of the household are known to be his children, his wife having died.

Members of the household include Washington Alderman, a 32 year old farmhand, born in Indiana; Susan Alderman, a 23 year old house keeper born in Indiana; Minter Alderman, a 20 year old farm hand born in Indiana; and N. J., a 17 year old farm hand born in Indiana who had attended school within the year.

So far, this is the last record I have located for Richard.  His wife sometime between 1860-1870.  I don't know much about the family, other than Washington was a Civil War veteran.

If you are related to this family in any way, I would love to hear from you.

Shaky Leaves : Thomas Crane household, 1930 census Johnson County, Indiana

Found the 1930 census record of the family of my maternal 2nd-great granduncle and family, Thomas Franklin Crane in the 1930 census of Edinburgh, Johnson County, Indiana through Ancestry.com's hints on my LeMaster & Allied Family Tree.

1930 US Census, Johnson County, Indiana, population schedule, Edinburgh, enumeration district (ED) 41-1, SD 11, sheet 17A, dwelling 454, family 461, ; digital images, Ancestry.com (www.ancestry.com : accessed 3 January 2016); National Archives, Washington, D.C..
Thomas was a widower, his wife Mary Florence (Gilliland) Crane having died in 1924 in Monroe County, Indiana.  In 1930, he was enumerated as a Retail merchant, running a grocery, and rented his home for $ 11 per month.  His age was 59, born in Indiana, as were his parents.

Listed in the household were his daughters, Georgiana, age 18; Grace, age 16; Dorothy, age 13; Mary, age 11; and Louise, age 9; all born in Indiana.

Prior to this find, I did not realize that the family had moved from Monroe County over to Johnson County, or that he was involved in the grocery business.

If you have any additional information about this family, I would love to hear from you.

DNA : McMillen line

Uploaded the DNA results of Eileen's mother and brother Curt to GEDMatch and was quickly contacted by DNA researcher Retta, who noted the connection and wanted to know the relationships.  I'm worked with Retta before on the McMillen line out of Marshall County, Indiana.

Will continue to working with Retta and the other McMillen researchers to see if we can make the connections.
