Aunt Vera's Diary - February 2nd

In the summer of 2019, I was able to photograph the entries in the diary of my maternal great-aunt, Vera (Haley) Stuber.  The entries cover the years from 1968-1971 time frame and provide an interesting view of her daily activities. Items in brackets are my notes for further research.

1968 - February 2nd - Friday

Rained some this morning snowed some, colder this eve.  C. went to Recovery this P.M.  I did some cleaning & baked cherry & cream pies.

1969 - February 2nd - Sunday

Attended church morn & eve.  Missionary from Haiti talked in eve.  We were to H. Huntsmans in P.M.

1970 - February 2nd - Monday

Snowed last night.  I washed.  Grace Schell here this A.M.

1971 - February 2nd - Tuesday

Baked angel food cake and made noodles.  Jean called last eve said Bernard was in hospital and that they would operate today.

Vera Delphene (Haley) Stuber was born 10 March 1890 in Jay County, Indiana, daughter of Eli Weldon & Cora Belle (Metzner) Haley.  She married 14 February 1915 in Jay County, Indiana to Clarence Leroy Stuber.  Vera died 17 June 1987 in Portland, Jay County, Indiana. Clarence was born 4 February 1891 in Jay County, Indiana, son of Henry and Margaret (Metzger) Stuber.  Clarence died 20 May 1981 in Portland, Jay County, Indiana.  They had no surviving children.

1968 - February 1st - Thursday

Rained about all night

1969 - February 1st - Saturday

Baked cherry pies etc.

1970 - February 1st - Sunday

A nice day, roads good.  Attended church morn & evening.  Carrie [Vera's sister] & Waymon here in P.M.

1971 - February 1st - Monday

Washed & ironed, put up kitchen curtains.  Very cold was 5% below zero this morning.

1968 - January 31st - Wednesday

Been a foggy, damp day.  We didn't go to prayer meeting.  4 children burned to death in house fire near Ruths last night.

1969 - January 31st - Friday

Cleaned up the house.  Went to Recovery in the P.M.

1970 - January 31st - Saturday

Usual work.  Clarks sale this P.M.

1971 - January 31st - Sunday

We are still shut ins I haven't been to church for 3 Sundays.  Clarence didn't go today, so cold & icy roads.
