Obituary : Catharine (Young) Metzner

METZNER - Catharine Young Metzner was born in France, July 19, 1819.  She came to this country with her parents in 1834.  She was married to John Metzner, a native of Germany, at Newark, Ohio, in 1839.  To this union was born 11 children.  Her husband and 7 children preceded her in death.  There remain to follow, 4 children, 21 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren and a host of other friends.  She was converted at an early age and lived a consistent life for more than 70 years.  She was a member of our church at Mt. Zion.  She died June 22, 1910, at the home of her daughter at Rome City, Ind., with whom she had made her home for the past nine years.  She selected the 23d Psalm for her funeral text.     J.E. Catharine (YOUNG) METZNER (1819-1910) was my paternal 3x great-grandmother, the daughter of Nicholas and Salome (YOUNG) YOUNG.  She married John METZNER November 4, 1839 in Newark, Licking County, Ohio.  The names of her 11 children were: John Adam, Henry, William F., George W., Louis Napoleon, Caroline H., Catherine E., Wesley T., Samantha E., Martha J., and Mary A.   Catharine is buried in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Noble Township, Jay County, Indiana.


The daughter living in Rome City, Indiana, must have been the youngest, Mary A. (METZNER) HUEY, as Catharine was enumerated in their household in the 1910 census of Orange Township, Noble County, Indiana.
