Family Milestones: April 22nd

My maternal 3rd-great granduncle, Albert Orland PIERCE, married on this date in 1884 in Wayne County, Indiana to Sarah S. WILSON.  Albert was the son of Francis S. and Rebecca (PAGE) PIERCE, and the younger brother of my Edmund G. PIERCE.  Sarah's parentage is unknown.  Albert was born June 2, 1839 in Wayne County, Indiana.  Sarah was born May 1844 in Indiana.  Albert's 1st wife, Elizabeth Williams PIKE, passed away March 25, 1883 in Wayne County, Indiana.  Albert and Sarah lived in Clay Township, Wayne County, Indiana, where Albert was a farmer. Albert was a veteran of the Civil War, serving in Company D, 8th Regiment of Indiana Infantry.  Sarah died in 1928.  Albert died in 1920.  Both are buried in the Sugar Grove Cemetery, Wayne County, Indiana.

My paternal great-granduncle, Arthur Raymond LeMASTERS, married on this date in 1906 in Jay County, Indiana to Maude Gertrude McLAUGHLIN.  Arthur was the son of Luman Walker and Mary Keziah (CHEW) LeMASTERS Jr., and the younger brother of my Luman Cooper LeMASTERS.  Arthur was born December 28, 1885 in Jay County, Indiana.  Maude was born September 29, 1888.  I do not have her parentage.  They lived in Salamonia, Madison Township, Jay County, Indiana where Arthur was a farmer.  Maude died in 1967.  Arthur died December 16, 1971.  Both are buried in the Salamonia Cemetery, Jay County, Indiana.

My maternal 3rd-great granduncle, Cornelius KING, married on this date in 1862 in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana to Indiana BURKHARDT.  Cornelius was the son of William and Sarah (SULLIVAN) KING, and the older brother of my Daniel KING.  I do not have Indiana's parentage.  Cornelius was born circa 1815 in Indiana.  Indiana was born March 24, 1836 in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana.  Cornelius' 1st wife, Mary Ann BARNETT, had passed away between 1860 and 1862.  Cornelius was a lumber dealer in Center Township, Marion County, Indiana.  He and Indiana had 3 children.  Indiana died August 11, 1920 in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana.  Cornelius died April 6, 1887 in Marion County, Indiana.  Both are buried in Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana.

My paternal 7th-great grandfather, Hans Heinrich CHERDRON, was married on this date in 1727 in Otterberg, Bayern to Anna Maria HERBACH.  Hans was the son of Abraham and Anne Margueritte (VIELLARD) CHERDRON.  Anna was the daughter of Johann Peter and Anna Maria (________) HERBACH.  Hans was born July 8, 1706 in Erlenbach, Bayern.  Anna was born July 5, 1705 in Otterberg, Bayern.  They immigrated to York County, Pennsylvania.  They had at least 1 child.  Anna died after 1772 in York County, Pennsylvania.  Hans died after 1771 in York County, Pennsylvania.  Nothing further is known at this time.

My maternal 5th-great grandaunt, Belinda ANTONIDES, was born on this date in 1770.  Belinda was the daughter of Pieter and Catherine (VANDERVEER) ANTONIDES, and the older sister of my Joannah ANTONIDES.  Belinda married Thomas HEGEMAN. Nothing further is known at this time.

My maternal 4th-great granduncle, Elijah CHEW, was born on this date in 1790 in Gloucester County, New Jersey.  Elijah was the son of Nathaniel and Sarah (SPRINGER) CHEW, and the younger brother of my Nathaniel CHEW.   Elijah married circa 1810 to Jane DRIVER.  Jane was born circa 1794.  Jane died after the 1860 census, when the family was living in Mantua Township, Gloucester County, New Jersey.  Elijah died November 4, 1872.  Nothing further is known at this time.

My paternal 2nd-great granduncle, John Stevens LEMASTERS, was born on this date in 1855 in Jay County, Indiana.  John was the son of Luman Walker and Nancy (YOUNG) LEMASTERS Sr. and the younger brother of my Luman Walker LEMASTERS Jr.  John married November 28, 1881 in Jay County, Indiana to Sarah I. WILSON.  Sarah was born September 1859 in Indiana, of unknown parentage.  They had 7 children and lived in St. Paul, Howard County, Nebraska.  Last known location for them was the 1920 census, where they were living in the 2nd ward of St. Paul, Howard County, Nebraska.

Clara (Penisten) Pierce (1869-1906)

Clara (PENISTEN) PIERCE (1869-1906), was my maternal 2nd-great grandmother.  The PENISTEN/PENNISTEN/PENISTON line has unknown origins, stretching back in New Jersey before the Revolution.

The following facts about Clara's life are known:
  • Birth: She was born March 1869 in Indiana, probably Madison County, the daughter of John and Jane Ann (ALDERMAN) PENISTEN.
  • Marriage: She married William Francis PIERCE on January 14, 1892 in Madison County, Indiana.
  • Census: 1900 - she appears in the household of William F. PIERCE in the Monroe Township, Madison County, Indiana.  She is listed as the mother of 5 children, with 3 still living.
  • Death: She died September 26, 1906 in Lafayette Township, Madison County, Indiana of diabetes.
  • Obituary: Her obituary appeared in the Alexandria-Times Tribune, Alexandria, Madison County, Indiana.
  • Burial: She was buried in the Maplewood Cemetery, Anderson, Madison County, Indiana.
The following facts need additional research and/or documentation to complete my research:
  • Census:1870 - need to locate her in the 1870 census, should be in the John PENISTEN household in Madison County, Indiana.
  • Census:1880 - need to locate her in the 1880 census, should be in the John PENISTEN household in Madison County, Indiana
  • Death: Need to obtain an official copy of her death certificate from the Madison County, Indiana Health Department
  • Obituary: Need to obtain exact date of obituary in the Alexandria Times-Tribune, also need to seek out additional obituaries in local newspapers.

Family Milestones: April 21st

My maternal 4th-great granduncle, Allen WARDLAW, married on this date in 1827 in Brown County, Ohio to Catherine PATTON.  Allen was the son of Samuel and Elizabeth (NESBIT) WARDLAW, and the older brother of my Anna WARDLOW.  I do not have dates of birth or death, nor parentage for Catherine.  Allen was born circa 1800 in Ohio.  He was previously married to Sally BROWN  Allen died circa 1854.  Nothing further is known at this time.

My maternal 5th-great granduncle, Hugh WARDLAW, was born on this date in 1794.  Hugh was the son of Robert and Janet (DOWNEY) WARDLAW, and the younger brother of my Samuel WARDLAW.  Hugh was married on July 13, 1815 in Clermont County, Ohio to Rebecca HIRONS, daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (LEVEL) HIRONS.  Rebecca was born December 12, 1793.  They had 11 children and lived in Brown County, Ohio.  Rebecca died March 19, 1871.  Hugh died January 24, 1864 in Brown County, Ohio.

My maternal 5th-great granduncle, Joseph WARDLAW, was born on this date in 1794.  Joseph was the son of Robert and Janet (DOWNEY) WARDLAW, and the younger brother of my Samuel WARDLAW.  Joseph married Sarah KIMBALL, daughter of Benjamin KIMBALL.  Sarah was born May 13, 1804.  They had at least 2 children.  Nothing further is known at this time.

My paternal 6th-great granduncle, John MAXSON, was born on this date in 1701 in Westerly, Rhode Island.  John was the son of John and Judith (CLARKE) MAXSON, and the younger brother of my Bethia and Elizabeth MAXSON.  John married September 26, 1724 in Westerly, Rhode Island to Thankful RANDALL, daughter of Matthew and Eleanor (UTTER) RANDALL.  Thankful was born circa 1701.  They had 10 children.  John died 1786 in Washington County, Rhode Island.
