Sunday Supper: Memories of Simple Suppers

Mom emailed the following memory of her family's Sunday supper routine:

After watching a commercial for Campbell soup, I was reminded of the Sunday night suppers my mom made using Campbell's soup.   Growing up in the late 40's and 50's as a child,I recall that families usually spent their Sundays going to Sunday school, church and coming home for a Sunday dinner.  A favorite dinner was greasy pan fried chicken  and gravy with mashed potatoes.   Some families used Sunday as a day to visit with relatives.   Stores were not opened, farmers didn't work in the fields, and so Sunday was a day of relaxation.   Sunday night suppers were usually simple since we had had a big meal at noon.   Mom would heat up a can of Campbells' Cream of Chicken soup and add chopped boiled eggs.  She would pour this combination over toast.   Since tomato soup was a favorite of hers, she would serve us Campbell's tomato soup and toasted cheese sandwiches.    I can also remember that if we didn't have canned soup, she would take toast and break it into pieces and put the pieces into a glass.   Hot milk was poured over the toast and salt and pepper was added.
