On This Day : August 26

1656 - Jean CHERDRON married Susanne CENSIER in Otterberg, Pfalz.  Jean was the son of Daniel CHERDRON and Susanne CHAPPE.  Susanne was the daughter of Jean CENSIER and Marie BAILLARD.  They were my 9x-great grandparents.

1667 - Anna WEBB died in Northampton, Hampshire County, Massachusetts.  Anna was the daughter of John BASSETT and Margery ________.  Anna was my 10x-great grandmother.

1692 - Ebenezer BROUGHTON born.  Ebenezer was the son of John BROUGHTON and Hannah BASCOM.

1714 - Moses HURLBUT born in Woodbury, Connecticut.  Moses was the son of Joseph HURLBUT and Mary CASTLE.  Moses was my 7x-great grandfather.

1765 - Samuel CHEW married Margaret TURNER.  Samuel was the son of Jeffrey CHEW and Amy DRIVER.

1767 - Magdalene STRADER born in Hampshire County, Virginia.  Magdalene was the daughter of Christopher STRADER and Elizabeth BUSH.  Magdalene was Corinne's 6x-great grandmother.

1778 - Samuel PIERCE died.  Samuel was the son of Seth PIERCE and Bethiah FIELD.

1788 - Samuel BURDICK born.  Samuel was the son of Hazard BURDICK and Esther SHIRLEY.

1833 - Andrew Jackson JACOBS born in Brown County, Ohio.  Andrew was the son of James Thomas JACOBS and Isabella FEILY.

1836 - Robert H. DEACON married Sarah B. GASKILL in Burlington County, New Jersey.  Robert was the son of Joseph DEACON and Beulah HAINES.

1839 - Benjamin Franklin CROCKETT born.  Benjamin was the son of John CROCKETT and Susan HAYDEN.

1884 - Luella BALDWIN married John D. RATHFON in Wayne County, Indiana.  Luella was the daughter of Cyrus A. BALDWIN and Barbara SHERRICK.

1896 - Ethel KING born in Indiana.  Ethel was the daughter of Albert Edward KING and Sarah Emma GEISEL.

1904 - Nancy LeMASTERS died in Salamonia, Jay County, Indiana.  Nancy was the daughter of Phillip YOUNG and Nancy Ann McLANE.  Nancy was my 3x-great grandmother.

1908 - Mattie SWAFFORD married Napoleon BROTHERTON in Hamilton County, Tennessee.  Mattie was the daughter of John Aaron SWAFFORD and Bell SEABORN.

1910 - Isaac LEMASTERS died in Madison Township, Jasper County, Missouri.  Isaac was the son of Isaac LEMASTERS and Hannah Elizabeth COLEMAN.

1971 - Charles G. LEE died in Kansas City, Kansas.  Charles was the son of Gordon A. LEE and Lucretta REEDER.

1. Vital Records

     1.1. Birth Certificate

          Charles was born January 25, 1872 in Preble County, Ohio1

          1.1.1. Birth Notice in Newspaper

               I have not yet searched contemporary newspapers at the time of Charles' birth to see if it was mentioned.

          1.1.2. Bible Record

               I am not aware of any surviving Bible records for the Lambertson family.  Will continue to reach out to extended family members in the hopes that one does exist.

          1.1.3. Baptismal Record

               I am not aware of a baptismal record for Charles, though I do not know the church affiliation of the family at this time.

          1.1.4. Adoption Record

               There is no indication that Charles was adopted.

     1.2. Marriage license

          Charles was married on April 18, 1897 in Cicero, Hamilton County, Indiana2 to Pearl May Beals.  I do not yet have a copy of their marriage license.

          1.2.1. Marriage notice in newspaper

               Will need to search out mention of their wedding on my next library research trip.

          1.2.2. Anniversary notice

               Charles and Pearl's wedding anniversary was mentioned in the newspaper on their 57th wedding anniversary2.  I need to search out other mentions of their anniversary.  Their 25th would have been in 1922, and their 50th was in 1947.

          1.2.3. Divorce decree

               There is no indication that they ever filed for divorce, but I have not searched court records to verify.

     1.3. Death Certificate

          Charles died May 24, 1958 in Elwood, Madison County, Indiana3.  I have not yet obtained a copy of his death certificate.  Will add that to my list of "to-do" items for my next research trip.

          1.3.1. Obituary in newspaper

               Charles' obituary appeared in the May 26, 1958 edition of the Noblesville Daily Ledger3.

               Will need to search other local newspapers to see if his death was mentioned.

          1.3.2. Funeral home records

               According to his obituary, arrangements were handed by the Copher Funeral Home in Elwood.  Will need to contact the funeral home to see if they have any surviving records.

          1.3.3. Tombstone photograph

               Charles' tombstone in the Cicero City Cemetery has been photographed4, and was the subject of a previous post.

2. Census Records

     2.1. Federal Census Records

          2.1.1. 1930 Federal Census

               On April 2, 1930, Charles was enumerated in Sharpsville, Tipton County, Indiana5, as Charles W. Lambertson, age 57, married, Carpenter.  He was born in Ohio and both parents were also born in Ohio.  He was aged 25 at time of 1st marriage.  He was not a veteran.  Living in the household were wife, Pearl, age 51, born Indiana and daughter Elizabeth C., age 14, born in Indiana.

          2.1.2. 1920 Federal Census

               On January 14, 1920, Charles was enumerated in 3rd Ward, Elwood, Madison County, Indiana6, as Charles W. Lambertson, age 47, married, Carpenter.  He was born in Ohio and both parents were also born in Ohio.  He could read and write and speak English.  Living in the household were wife, Pearl M., age 41, born Indiana; son Orval E., age 17, born in Indiana; daughter Pauline, age 11, born in Indiana; son Paul, age 11, born in Indiana and daughter Elizabeth C., age 4 1/2, born in Indiana.

          2.1.3. 1910 Federal Census

               On April 23, 1910, Charles was enumerated in Jackson Township, Hamilton County, Indiana7, as Charles Lambertson, age 38, married, Painter.  He was born in Ohio and both parents were also born in Ohio.  He could read and write and speak English.  He rented his home.  Living in the household were wife, Pearl, age 31, born Indiana; son Clemon B., age 11, born Indiana; son Orval E., age 8, born Indiana; daughter Leona B., age 5, born Indiana; son Paul, age 1 11/12, born Indiana and daughter Pauline, age 1 11/12, born in Indiana.

          2.1.4. 1900 Federal Census

               On June 16, 1900, Charles was enumerated in the Carey Lambertson household in Jackson Township, Hamilton County, Indiana8, as Charles Lambertson, age 29, born January 1871 in Ohio, a brick setter.  Both his parents were born in Ohio and he could read, write and speak English.  His wife, Pearl, age 22, and son Clemon, age 1, were also enumerated in the household.

          2.1.1. 1880 Federal Census

               On June 1, 1880, Charles was enumerated in the Carry Lambertson household in German Township, Montgomery County, Ohio9, as Charles W. Lambertson, age 8, born in Ohio.  Both parents were listed as born in Ohio. He had attended school within the year.


     2.2. State Census Records

          The State of Indiana conducted state census in 1853, 1857, 1871, 1877, 1883, 1889, 1901, 1913, 1919, and 1931.  These however, were merely for the purposes of determining legislative apportionment.

          Ohio state census records are not known to exist.

     2.3. Agricultural Census Records

          I have not yet examined these types of records to see what light might be shed on the Lambertson family farm.

3. Military Records

     3.1. Draft Registration

          I need to search out online draft registration to see if Charles was listed.  He might have been eligible for the Spanish-American War.

     3.2. Pension Records

          I am not aware of any military service by Charles.

     3.3. Service Records

          I am not aware of any military service by Charles.

4. Land Records

     4.1. Deed Records

          Deed records need to be searched thoroughly in Hamilton, Howard and Madison Counties, Indiana for records of his land purchases.  I have been told that he dealt with a number of rental properties.

     4.2. Plat map / county map

          Will need to search out the various plat maps in the above mentioned counties for locations of Lambertson property, including city maps in Elwood, Madison County, Indiana.

5. Supplemental Records

     Supplemental records available to search for Charles include city/county directories, court records and will and probate records.  Will add these to my list of "to-do" items for my next courthouse research trip.

1675 - John CLARKE born in Westerly, Rhode Island.  John was the son of Joseph CLARKE and Bethiah HUBBARD.

1715 - John DAVIS married Elizabeth MAXSON in Westerly, Rhode Island.  John was the son of William DAVIS and Elizabeth BRISLEY.  Elizabeth was the daughter of John MAXSON and Judith CLARKE.  They were my 7x-great grandparents.

1727 - Simeon MAXSON born in Westerly, Rhode Island.  Simeon was the son of Joseph MAXSON and Bethia MAXSON.

1734 - Benjamin FESSENDEN born in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.  Benjamin was the son of William FESSENDEN and Martha BROWN.

1736 - Joseph AARONSEN married Hannah FOLWELL in Burlington County, New Jersey.  Joseph was the son of John AARONSEN and Mary ________.  Hannah was the daughter of Nathan FOLWELL and Sarah MIDDLETON.  They were my 7x-great grandparents.

1744 - Johannes GROENENDYKE married Sarah Ann LAKE in New Jersey.  Johannes was the son of Petrus GROENENDYKE and Mayke VERKERK.  Sarah was the daughter of John LAKE and Martinah ______.  They were my 7x-great grandparents.

1752 - Hannah MILLS born.  Hannah was the daughter of Henry MILLS and Hannah THORNBURG.

1754 - Thomas ALLEN born in Chester County, Pennsylvania.  Thomas was the son of John ALLEN and Phebe SCARLETT.

1800 - Rebecca CHEW died in Orange County, Virginia.  Rebecca was the daughter of Joseph CHEW and Elizabeth THOMAS.

1808 - Uriah HUNT married Rebecca MASON.  Uriah was the son of John HUNT and Rachel HAWORTH.

1810 - Mary Ann HIGGINS born in Flemington, Hunterdon County, New Jersey. Mary was the daughter of Judiah HIGGINS and Mary QUICK.

1820 - Samuel SILLS born in Champaign County, Ohio.  Samuel was the son of Michael SILLS and Rosanna FETTERS.

1847 - Philander WARDLOW died.  Philander was the son of William WARDLAW and Isabel NESBIT.

1884 - Ora Amanda HALEY born in Jay County, Indiana.  Ora was the daughter of George Washington HALEY and Mary Jane SHERRICK.

1895 - Larfieler CUMMINGS married A.G. TAYLOR in Dyer County, Tennessee.  Larfieler was the daughter of Wyatt CUMMINGS and Margaret HENSON.

1910 - Mildred WILDT born in Vanderburgh County, Indiana.  Mildred was the daughter of Arthur WILDT and Anna Magdalena DAMM.

1911 - Lora BOYER born.  Lora was the daughter of Carlos J. BOYER and Cordie Bell WHITE.
