David L. & Ellen (Lambertson) Mengle burial location

Received an email from Shirley Murray who gave me updated burial information on David L. and Ellen (LAMBERTSON) MENGLE. Both are buried in the Holp Cemetery in Jackson Township, Montgomery County, Ohio.

Ellen (LAMBERTSON) MENGLE was my maternal 3rd great-grandaunt, the sister of my ancestor, Carey W. LAMBERTSON. Ellen was born June 21, 1850 in Ohio (probably Butler Co.) and died September 16, 1933 in Jackson Township, Montgomery County, Ohio. She married David L. MENGLE on November 10, 1870 in Butler County, Ohio. David was born circa 1851 Ohio, the son of George and Susanna (RUMBARGER) MENGLE. David died July 4, 1938 in Jackson Township, Montgomery County, Ohio.

David & Ellen had one known son, Lionel C. MENGLE, who is also buried in Holp Cemetery, along with his wife, Edith. According to Shirley's email, Lionel was born in 1885 and died in 1961 while Edith was born 1887 and died in 1947.

One of the benefits of posting information online is that oftentimes a researcher or cousin will contact you and give you a tidbit of data to add to your files. Now I will set up a memorial page for them at FindAGrave.

Find A Grave Memorial : Virgil Lee Wright (1894-1972)

I've created a Find A Grave memorial for my maternal great-grandfather, Virgil Lee Wright (1894-1972) who is buried in Park View Cemetery in Alexandria, Madison Co., IN, along with his wife, Edna Muriel (Pierce) Wright.

Virgil was born July 6, 1894 in Madison Co., IN and died March 25, 1972 in Madison Co., IN. He was the son of John William and Ellen (King) Wright. Virgil married Edna Muriel Pierce on June 19, 1915 in Alexandria, Madison Co., IN.

Find A Grave Memorial : William Lee Wright (1919-1973)

I've created a memorial page for my paternal grandfather, William Lee Wright (1919-1973), who is buried in the Park View Cemetery, Alexandria, IN, along with my grandmother, Bonnie.

William was born December 1, 1919 in Monroe Twp., Madison Co., IN, the middle of three children born to Virgil Lee and Edna Muriel (Pierce) Wright.

He was known as "Johnny Bill" throughout his life, apparently due to a conflict over whether or not to name him John William after his grandfather. The 1920 census record bears this out, as he is listed as John W.E. Wright, 1 month old.

Find A Grave Memorial : Ord Wehrly LeMaster (1906-1971)

I've created a Find A Grave memorial page for my paternal grandfather, Ord Wehrly LeMaster (1906-1971), who is buried in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Jay Co., IN, along with my grandmother, Ruth.

Ord was born September 30, 1906 in Salamonia, Jay Co., IN, the son of Luman Cooper and Barbara Isabelle (Wehrly) LeMasters. He was the 11th born of 13 children.

He was named either after his uncle, Ord Otterbein LeMASTERS, or after Civil War general, E.O.C. Ord - or perhaps both of them were. His middle name, Wehrly, was a family name.

Since he died when I was just a child, I have no recollection of him.

Updating FindAGrave Memorial Pages

Today I spent a little bit of time updating and adding a few memorial pages to FindAGrave. If you haven't checked out that site, I would encourage you to do so. Right now, my plans are to continue to add memorial pages for as many relatives as I can and request photos of their tombstones. So far, I've had success with photographs of tombstones as far away as Massachusetts and Iowa.

Parkview Cemetery, Alexandria, Indiana

My co-workers think I'm bizarre, but I enjoy spending my lunchtime walking and photographing local cemeteries, and then posting the results at FindAGrave.com.

Yesterday, I spent time at Parkview Cemetery in Alexandria, Indiana, where several members of my family are buried. As I walk row by row, I'm photographing each tombstone I find. It's a slow process, but also a rewarding one, as I have discovered the final resting place for several relatives.

The results of my 'work' (or fun, as I would call it), can be found here. I would encourage everyone to photograph and preserve the tombstone records of our cemeteries before they are all gone.

FindAGrave.com's Virtual Cemeteries

I stumbled onto their website about 6 months ago, while doing a Google search on an ancestor, and now I find myself strolling cemeteries on my lunch hour, photographing tombstones to contribute back to the genealogical community.

You can create a memorial even if you do not know in which cemetery your relatives are buried. You can also leave 'virtual flowers' and upload photographs and biographical information.

Originally designed to be a site where you could locate graves of the rich and famous, many researchers also use FindAGrave to enter internments from smaller, family cemeteries. I've had some success in locating photographs of tombstones in distant cemeteries. When the opportunity presents itself, I reciprocate in kind.

Check out the listings of the virtual cemeteries I've created for my branches of the family tree.
