Tombstone Tuesday: John H. and Bertha L. (LeMasters) Yaeger



John Henry and Bertha Fidelia (LeMASTERS) YAEGER are buried in the Salamonia Cemetery, Madison Township, Jay County, Indiana.  Bertha is my paternal great-grandaunt.


John was born October 4, 1874 in Jay County, Indiana.  I do not know his parentage.


Bertha was born May 31, 1874 in Darke County, Ohio, the daughter of Luman Walker and Mary Keziah (CHEW) LeMASTERS.


John and Bertha married May 20, 1903 in Jay County, Indiana.  They had 6 children, and lived in Clay County, Indiana where both were teachers.


John died in 1963.  Bertha died March 16, 1922 in Clay County, Indiana.

Tombstone Tuesday: Charles A.W. and Rebecca F. (Shumaker) Chew



Charles Alexander West and Rebecca F. (SHUMAKER) CHEW are buried in the Salamonia Cemetery, Madison Township, Jay County, Indiana.  Charles is my paternal 2nd-great granduncle.


Charles was born August 18, 1860 in Darke County, Ohio, the son of Dr. Ezekiel  Cooper and Caroline Bishop (WOOLSTON) CHEW.


Rebecca was born April 1861 in Ohio, according to census records.  I do not know her parentage.


Rebecca died September 23, 1916 in Wabash Township, Jay County, Indiana.  Charles died July 16, 1925 in Boyne City, Charlevoix County, Michigan.

Tombstone Tuesday: Forrest L. and Lelia E. (Ehrhart) Chew



Forrest L. and Lelia E. (Ehrhart) CHEW are buried in the Salamonia Cemetery, Madison Township, Jay County, Indiana.  Forrest is my first cousin 3 times removed.


Forrest was born May 1894 in Ohio, the son of William Anderson and Emma Susan (STRAIGHT) CHEW.


Lelia was born September 23, 1898.  I do not know her parentage.


Forrest and Lelia were married on September 1, 1920 in Jay County, Indiana.

Tombstone Tuesday: Thomas J. and Sarah J. BIGLEY


Thomas J. and Sarah J. (________) BIGLEY are buried in the Washington-Lawson Cemetery in Union Township, Marshall County, Indiana.  Thomas was Eileen's maternal 1st cousin 4 times removed.


Thomas was born April 1, 1851 in Indiana, the son of Edward and Amelia (FISHER) BIGLEY.


Sarah J. ________ was born February 4, 1851 in Indiana.


They had at least 3 children.  The family appears in the 1880 and 1900 census of Union Township, Marshall County, Indiana.


Thomas died December 20, 1925.  Sarah died December 15, 1935.

Tombstone Tuesday: Alva M. and Emma C. (Yaeger) Wehrly


Alva Monroe and Emma C. (YAEGER) WEHRLY are buried in the Salamonia Cemetery, Madison Township, Jay County, Indiana.  Alva is my paternal great granduncle.


Alva was born December 18, 1878 in Madison Township, Jay County, Indiana, the son of William P. and Olive Jane (SMITH) WEHRLY.


Emma was born April 1, 1882 in Salamonia, Jay County, Indiana.


Alva and Emma were married on October 1, 1901.  They had 7 children.


Alva died March 8, 1952 in Portland, Jay County, Indiana.  Emma died December 6, 1964 in Portland, Jay County, Indiana.

Tombstone Tuesday: William A. and Wanda K. (Peden) LeMaster


William Arden and Wanda Kate (PEDEN) LeMASTER are buried in the Salamonia Cemetery, Madison Township, Jay County, Indiana.  William was my 1st cousin once removed.


William was born September 7, 1924 in Jay County, Indiana, the son of John Leland and Dortha LeEtta (DeLAUTER) LeMASTER.


Wanda was born October 3, 1924 in Jay County, Indiana, the daughter of Glen and Velma C. (DISHER) PEDEN.


William and Wanda were married October 15, 1944 in Grant County, Indiana.  They had 2 children.


William died October 15, 1978 in Portland, Jay County, Indiana.  Wanda died November 18, 2008.

Tombstone Tuesday: Charles E. PEEPLES (d. 1876)


Eileen's maternal 1st cousin 3 times removed, Charles C. PEEPLES, is buried in the Washington-Lawson Cemetery, Union Township, Marshall County, Indiana.

Charles was the son of John R. and Electa (McMILLEN) PEEPLES.  His tombstone states that he died May 2, 1876, aged 2 months.

Tombstone Tuesday: Susannah (Reeves) Fisher


Eileen's maternal 4th-great grandmother, Susannah (REEVES) FISHER, is buried in the Washington-Lawson Cemetery, Union Township, Marshall County, Indiana.

Susannah was born November 8, 1789 in Virginia.  She married Daniel FISHER, son of George and Mary (________) FISHER, who died December 7, 1833, probably in Byrd Township, Brown County, Ohio.  They were the parents of 7 children.  Susannah came with her children first to Miami County, Indiana, and finally to Marshall County, Indiana, where she is listed in the 1850 census.  Susannah died October 26, 1855 in Marshall County, Indiana.

Tombstone Tuesday: Sarah May (PEEPLES) PEFLEY (1869-1932)


Eileen's maternal great-greatmother, Sarah May (PEEPLES) PEFLEY, is buried in the Washington-Lawson Cemetery, Union Township, Marshall County, Indiana.


Sarah was the daughter of George and Katherine (McMILLEN) PEEPLES.  According to her obituary in the Culver Citizen, she was born on a farm near Maxinkuckee on May 3, 1870, although her tombstone clearly says 1869. Sarah married Albert Duffey PEFLEY, son of Thomas Jefferson and Ruth (DUFFEY) PEFLEY, on October 9, 1898 in Culver, Marshall County, Indiana.  They had 4 children and resided in Lagro Township, Wabash County, Indiana.  Sarah and Albert divorced circa 1924.  Sarah died April 4, 1932 in Argos, Marshall County, Indiana.

Tombstone Tuesday: George & Catherine PEEPLES


George and Catherine (McMILLEN) PEEPLES are buried in the Washington-Lawson Cemetery in Union Township, Marshall County, Indiana.  They are Eileen's maternal 2nd-great grandparents.

George was born September 24, 1836 in Miami County, Indiana, the son of Hugh A.B. and Patsey (FISHER) PEEPLES.  Catherine was born circa 1849 in Indiana, daughter of James E. and Julia (________) McMILLEN.   They were married on October 22, 1867 in Marshall County, Indiana.

George served in the Civil War as a Private in Company D, 9th Indiana Volunteer Infantry. After the war, he was a farmer in Union Township, Marshall County, Indiana.

George and Catherine had 5 children, but only 3 daughters survived into adulthood.

Catherine died April 26, 1916 in Culver, Marshall County, Indiana.  George followed on January 15, 1918 in Culver.

Tombstone Tuesday: Larry Dee LeMaster



Larry Dee LeMASTER is buried in the Salamonia Cemetery, Madison Township, Jay County, Indiana.  Larry was my second cousin.

Larry was born June 8, 1949 in Jay County, Indiana, the son of John Leland and Helen Eileen (PEASE) LeMASTER.

Larry married Doris Jean SHREEVES on August 31, 1968.  They had 3 children.

Larry died February of 1974.

John Leland LeMASTER Jr. is buried in the Salamonia Cemetery, Madison Township, Jay County, Indiana.  John was my 1st cousin once removed.

John was born May 24, 1922 in Jay County, Indiana, the son of John Leland and Dortha LeEtta (DeLAUTER) LeMASTER.

John married October 22, 1941 to Helen Eileen PEASE, daughter of Carl Henry and Ruth Naomi (CORLE) PEASE.

John and Helen had 6 children.

John died March 27, 1973 in Jay County, Indiana.

Ralph J. and Ardis Ellen (LeMASTER) BICKEL are buried in the Salamonia Cemetery, Madison Township, Jay County, Indiana.  Ardis was my 1st cousin once removed.

Ralph J. was born June 12, 1929 in Delaware County, Indiana, the son of Ralph and Esta Mary (PREVOST) BICKEL.

Ardis Ellen was born January 20, 1931 in Cowan, Delaware County, Indiana, the daughter of John Leland and Dortha LeEtta (DeLAUTER) LeMASTER.

Ralph and Ardis were married on December 22, 1950.  They had 3 children.

Ralph died February 28, 2008.  Ardis died June 20, 1996.

Barbara Lee (JONES) LeMASTER is buried in the Salamonia Cemetery, Madison Township, Jay County, Indiana.  Barbara was the wife of my 1st cousin once removed, Francis Duane "Bud" LeMASTER.

Barbara was born December 28, 1948 in Springfield, Ohio, the daughter of Lawrence and Hazel (MEAD) JONES.  

Francis and Barbara had two children.  Barbara was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.

Kenneth Paul and Mary Louise (DALRYMPLE) LeMASTER are buried in the Salamonia Cemetery, Madison Township, Jay County, Indiana.  Kenneth was my 1st cousin once removed.

Kenneth was born October 8, 1911 in Mercer County, Ohio, the son of Clarence Harrison and Ferry May (BICKEL) LeMASTER


Mary Louise was born September 13, 1917 in Darke County, Ohio, the daughter of Evan James and Eva Mae (RUNNER) DALRYMPLE.


Kenneth was a farmer and factory worker.  They had 4 children: Wanda Faye, Francis Duane (Bud), Janet Marie and Nancy Jo.


Kenneth died April 6, 2001 in Portland, Jay County, Indiana.  Mary Louise died January 29, 2001 in Portland, Jay County, Indiana.

Tombstone Tuesday: William E. and Rachel (Lemasters) Cunningham

 

William E. and Rachel (LEMASTERS) CUNNINGHAM, my paternal 2nd-great grandaunt & uncle, are buried in the Salamonia Cemetery, Jay County, Indiana.

William was born February 1835 in Indiana, the son of Benjamin and Margaret (CLINE) CUNNINGHAM.

Rachel was born July 16, 1838 in Shelby County, Ohio, the daughter of Luman Walker and Nancy (YOUNG) LEMASTERS.

William and Rachel were married on March 18, 1860 in Jay County, Indiana.
William's occupation was shoemaker and farmer.  They lived out their lives in Madison Township, Jay County, Indiana.

William died June 4, 1912.  Rachel died March 12, 1913.

Known children of William and Rachel (LEMASTERS) CUNNINGHAM:

Tombstone Tuesday: Lawrence Delbert and Minerva Prudence (Wehrly) Jackson

 

Lawrence Delbert and Minerva Prudence (WEHRLY) JACKSON are buried in the Salamonia Cemetery, Jay County, Indiana.  Minerva was my great grandaunt.

Lawrence was born November 14, 1865.  Minerva was born July 25, 1867 in Madison Township, Jay County, Indiana, the daughter of William P. and Olive Jane (SMITH) WEHRLY.  

Lawrence and Minerva were married on October 7, 1885.

Lawrence was a painter and mail carrier, living in Madison and Wayne Townships of Jay County, Indiana.

Lawrence died February 23, 1929 in Elkhart, St. Joseph County, Indiana.  Minerva died March 18, 1948 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California.
