Today I sourced the census records for the Douglas King family in the 1900, 1910 and 1920 census of Monroe Twp., Madison Co., IN. Douglas and family lived in the village of Orestes. Douglas was the brother of my maternal great-grandmother, Ellen King.
Douglas' name was spelled in a variety of ways : Dugless and Dug being the best examples. Douglas' occupation was that of a glass worker, and apparently Orestes had a glass factory at one time. He was able to own his own home free of any mortgage, according to the 1920 census, and could read and write. By 1910, wife Amanda was the mother of 11 children, 8 of whom were still living.

David King Family - Madison Co., IN
Today I sourced the data on the David King family of Madison Co., IN in the 1900 & 1910 census of Monroe Twp. David was the son of Daniel & Elizabeth (Shaw) King.
In both census David is listed as a farmer whose farm was mortgaged. In the 1900 census, wife Litha is stated as the mother of 6 children, with 4 living, and by 1910 listed on one living. The 1910 census is in error, as in the next household I found daughter Frankie and her husband David Gosnell.
David's father, Daniel, had died by 1876, so it's possible that David didn't know his family origins. In the 1900 census he stated his father was born in Maryland and his mother in Indiana. In the 1910 census he stated that his father was born in North Carolina and his mother in Virginia. Census records for Daniel King state that he was either born in Indiana or in Ohio.

David King Family - Marion Co., Indiana
Today I sourced the data on the David King family found in the 1860 & 1870 census of Marion County, Indiana. David and family lived in the 3rd Ward of the city of Indianapolis. David was the son of William and Sarah (Sullivan) King, and was the brother of my maternal 3rd-great grandfather, Daniel King.
In the 1860 census, David is listed as a carpenter, but in the 1870 census his occupation was that of an ice merchant. The family was enumerated twice in the 1870 census, apparently the whole city of Indianapolis was recounted because of a disagreement with the count. In one count, David's mother, Sarah (Sullivan) King, aged 72 born Maryland, was listed as boarding with the family. Her age would make her born circa 1798, instead of 1777, which I had previously thought. This birth date would be more in line with her husband's.
David was doing particularly well by the 1870 census, as the value of his real estate was listed at $25,000 and his personal estate was valued at $1000. Also enumerated with David was his wife, Nancy, and daughter Emma.
David KING b. May 25, 1825 near Zanesville, OH., d. December 31, 1899 Indianapolis, Marion Co., IN., m. October 7, 1855 Marion Co., IN to Nancy M. BAYLOR. Nancy b. January 26, 1831 Marion Co., IN., d. August 26, 1883 Indianapolis, Marion Co., IN.
Known children of David and Nancy M. (Baylor) King are as follows :
i. Emma S. King., b. May 1858 Indianapolis, IN., d. 1937, m. William W. Gulick
