Spring Clean: Plat map of Wright home, Alexandria Indiana
This document shows the property description and physical features of my grandparents home at 610 West Broadway in Alexandria, Madison County, Indiana.
Transcription: SURVEY OF LOT 232 IN ALEXANDRIA LAND AND GAS COMPANY'S FIRST ADDITION TO ALEXANDRIA, INDIANA.
TO ALL PARTIES INTERESTED IN TITLE TO PREMISES SURVEYED:
I hereby certify that I am a registered Civil Engineer, and that the above is a true and correct plat of the following described real estate, to-wit:
Lot number 232 in Alexandria Land and Gas Company's First Addition to Alexandria, Madison County, Indiana, the plat of which is recorded in Plat Book 4, page 45, in the Office of the Recorder of Madison County, Indiana.
I further certify that the buildings are situated on or within the boundaries of said premises.
I further certify that the buildings on adjoining property do not encroach on the lot or real estate in question.
The property is now owned by Virgil C. and Marguerite Christenson and is located at 620 West Broadway, Alexandria, Indiana.
Surveyed Oct. 4, 1939. Signature: Paul W. Phipps, Civil Engineer
What I Learned From This Document: The plat map states that the property is located at 620 West Broadway, Alexandria, Indiana, but I know that it was 610 West Broadway. The map on the plat shows Central Avenue in Alexandria, and then the alley which was right besides grandma and grandpas house. This must be a typographical error. Below is a Google map of the area.
I was not aware that the Alexandria Land and Gas Company created an addition to the City of Alexandria, but that would make sense as Alexandria was one of the 'gas boom' towns in east central Indiana.
Spring Clean: The Spring Clean is my attempt to examine, cite and document the files and scans that I have accumulated over the years in my genealogy research. By cataloging, filing and re-examining different pieces of data I hope to discover new facts about my family.

Christian Easterday (1831-1918)
After posting the Family Milestone post for April 25th, I was surprised to find that I didn't have more information on Christian EASTERDAY, who married my paternal 2nd-great grandaunt, Barbara Helen HALEY. I didn't have his parentage, nor his death date, and the only family record I had was the 1900 census, when they lived in the 3rd ward of the city of Portland, Jay County, Indiana.
A quick search of Ancestry.com located the death record of Christian on May 21, 1918 in Portland, Jay County, Indiana, as recorded by the W.P.A. in the index of Indiana death records. The record is located in Book CH-2, page 75. Will have to check that out when I next get back to Portland.
