Jay County, Indiana Genealogy Library Completes Move
According to the latest addition of the Jay County Journal, the genealogy library, which had been located on Commerce Street in Portland, has been finally consolidated into the East Main Street Museum.
Some materials are now being stored at the Gilpin Annex next to the museum. Included among these are the seven large file cabinets which hold probates and ledgers holding court documents. The society requests that you call ahead at least two days in advance if you anticipate using these resources, to ensure that they have the staff available to assist.
The museum is located at 903 E. Main Street in Portland, Indiana. The website is located at www.jaycountyhistory.org Phone number (260) 726-7168. Museum hours are Monday-Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Looks like I'll be calling ahead, as the probate records are ones that I definitely want to research on my next trip there.
