Jumping Back into the WorldConnect Waters

I've decided to jump back into the WorldConnect waters and post a database at their site again. My database is TJLGenes. Right now this database is my line of descent from Abraham Lemaster (c1636/39-1722) of St. Mary's & Charles Co., MD.

I previously had posted a database at WorldConnect, and may expand this database in the future. There are numerous errors throughout WorldConnect, but at least it does offer a starting point, and a point of contact among researchers. My hope is that someone will find some connection in my database, and they in turn can help me.

As I continue to update my FamilyTree Maker database with source materials, I will upload periodically to WorldConnect. Currently I am working on census images that I obtained through my subscription to the Godfrey library before they lost Heritage Quest.

June Kirk Davis / Gilliland

June Kirk Davis (aka June Gilliland) was born June 11, 1898 in Indianapolis, Marion Co., IN. Her birth certificate lists her parents as Atkinson and Ida Davis. Ida Davis, June's mother, was quite an interesting story, and I am still working to track down all of the details - but at the time, Ida was not married that I'm aware of, and I have found no evidence that anyone named Atkinson Davis existed.

June was raised by her maternal grandmother and step-grandfather, Mary Ellen (Swafford) and Robert Farrell Gilliland, after the death of her mother on August 2, 1900. After that, she was known as June Gilliland. Her marriage license in Monroe Co., IN listed her as June Gilliland when she married my great-grandfather, Clemon Beals Lambertson on June 28, 1917.

These photographs came from cousin Lloyd Adams of Florida, and what is striking to me is the close resemblance between my neice, Ally, and my great-grandmother's photograph above.

Ida Davis (1874-1900)

These photos came from cousin Lloyd Adams in Florida, and were part of his mother Marie's collection of family photographs.

Both of these purport to be photographs of Ida Davis, daughter of James Austin and Mary Ellen (Swafford) Davis.

Ida was born July 2, 1874 in Owen Co., IN and died August 2, 1900 in Owen Co., IN. She was married to Samuel G. Hancock on August 28, 1892 in Monroe Co., IN and later divorced. She married secondly to Carrie A. Morris on July 19, 1900 in Clay Twp., Owen Co., IN. Ida had two daughters, Pansy and June. June was my great-grandmother, and her parentage has been a subject of much mystery and debate in the family.

It is quite possible that these photographs are not of Ida, but actually her mother, Mary Ellen.

Who is Henry Chew?

Who is the Henry D. Chew found in the 1860 Gloucester Co., NJ census in the household of Elijah Chew? Henry was age 11, living in Mantua township. Elijah was aged 70, his wife Jane aged 66, so I'm assuming that Henry was a grandchild.

Getting others interested in family history

Yesterday my parents stop by for a visit after spending the day at the Batte of Mississinewa 1812 reenactment. It wasn't too long before we started talking about family history, as they really enjoyed the family tree book that I had put together for the last LeMaster reunion. Dad wanted to borrow it again, and talking about ancestors had him thinking about his own research in the 1970's.

Mom is putting together a project at the school for veteran's day, so she's asking me for information as to who served in what war from our family. Basically, we've had family members in almost every conflict that this country has been a part of. We've had relatives on both sides during the Civil War and the American revolution.

I've never worked out the paper trail hard enough to provide proof for the lineage societies, but maybe that is something I will work on in my multitudes of free time.

One thing I've noticed is that other's in the family are not as interested in genealogy and family history unless they can tie it to a specific event, i.e. the Civil War. Names and dates and who married whom will simply bore them to tears.

Mystery Man : Frank Fletcher or Carrie Morris?

This photograph was given to me by my cousin, Lloyd Adams, of Florida. It was part of a collection that his mother, Marie (Gilliland) Adams possessed. The identity of the man is not known for sure, but the photograph was labeled "Fletcher or Morris" suppossedly June Gilliland's father.

June Gilliland (aka Davis) was my great-grandmother. She was the daughter of Ida Davis born July 2, 1874 Owen Co., IN; died August 2, 1900 Clay Twp., Owen Co., IN. Ida Davis was married at least twice : first to Samuel G. Hancock on August 28, 1892 in Monroe Co., IN, and secondly to Carrie A. Morris on July 19, 1900 in Monroe Co., IN.

My great-grandmother, June, was born June 11, 1898 in Indianapolis, Marion Co., IN. Her birth certificate lists her parents as Atkinson & Ida Davis. At the time of June's birth, her mother, Ida was divorced from Samuel Hancock and had not yet married Carrie Morris.

June had an older sister, Pansy Davis, born December 11, 1894. In her obituary in the January 27, 1968 Monticello, IN Herald-Journal, it states that Pansy was born in Elletsville, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Frank Fletcher. Who was this mystery Frank Fletcher? How does he fit into the family?

I have found a Frank Fletcher, living in nearby Greene Co., IN in the 1900, 1910 & 1920 with occupation listed as salesman. He was born in Ohio circa 1852-1857, listed as single and living as a boarder in each of these records.
