1888 - Wiley Riddle CHEW born in St. Joseph County, Indiana.  Wiley was the son of Dr. Ezekiel Cooper CHEW and Mary Jane RIDDLE.


1890 - Elizabeth Clementine BOWMAN born in Howard Lake, Minnesota.  Elizabeth was the daughter of Elmer C. BOWMAN and Jane Fraser McVEETY.


1891 - Zula Lee SWAFFORD born in Ray County, Missouri.  Zula was the daughter of James Calvin SWAFFORD and Louisa Catherine LEE.


1904 - David Victor KING married Rosie Myrtle ETCHSION.  David was the son of David KING and Litha Ann Trumilis D'Amsel MAY.


1906 - Peter Miller YOUNG died in Jackson Center, Shelby County, Ohio.  Peter was the son of Phillip YOUNG and Keziah CURTIS.


1912 - Martha Jane SHERRILL died in Bledsoe County, Tennessee.  Martha was the daughter of Aaron SWAFFORD and Eliza Jane TAYLOR.


1953 - William Homer HENDRIXSON died in Clearwater, Florida.  William was the son of Ira F. HENDRIXSON and Mary Ann BERRY.


1964 - William Harrison SWAFFORD died in Bledsoe County, Tennessee.  William was the son of James B. SWAFFORD and Mahulda A. HOLLOWAY.

1689 - Sarah BOWATER born in Chester County, Pennsylvania.  Sarah was the daughter of Thomas BOWATER and Sarah EDGE.  Sarah was my 8x-great grandmother.


1741 - Nicholas FESSENDEN died in Watertown, Massachusetts.  Nicholas was the son of William FESSENDEN and Martha WYETH.


1756 - Deborah NEWCOMB died in Lebanon, Connecticut.  Deborah was my 9x-great grandmother.


1758 - William FESSENDEN died.  William was the son of William FESSENDEN and Martha WYETH.


1760 - Mildred DOWNS born.  Mildred was the daughter of Capt. Henry DOWNS and Frances CHEW.


1795 - Mary WEST born in New Jersey.  Mary was the daughter of Job WEST and Sarah JACKSON.  Mary was my 4x-great grandmother.


1806 - Rebeckah WILLIAMS married Garland WADE.  Rebeckah was the daughter of Silas WILLIAMS and Mary HUNT.

1863 - Nicholas Modest MIGUET married Caroline A. LONG in Buchanan County, Iowa.  Nicholas was the son of John Peter MIGUET and Frances ________.


1868 - Charles W. MORRISTON born.  Charles was the son of Alonzo T. MORRISTON and Rebecca A. WAMSLEY.


1868 - William SUMNER died in Hamilton County, Indiana.  William was the son of Thomas SUMNER and Hannah HIATT.


1886 - Ethel May WEHRLY born in Madison Township, Jay County, Indiana.  Ethel was the daughter of William P. WEHRLY and Olive Jane SMITH.


1890 - George David Ellsworth HALEY married Nettie M. PREMER in Jay County, Indiana.  George was the son of George Washington HALEY and Mary Jane SHERRICK.


1903 - Frank ALDERMAN born.  Frank was the son of George W. ALDERMAN and Sarah JARRARD.

Stories and history :


Ahnentafel # 87 : Barbara Byers (1798-1874).  Barbara was born January 5, 1798 in Warrington Township, York County, Pennsylvania.  She married David Jacobs (1796-1857) circa 1817 in York County, Pennsylvania.  David was born October 3, 1796 in York County, Pennsylvania.  They were the parents of 10 children, raising them in York County and Wayne County, Ohio.  The family moved to Ohio circa 1835.  David died June 20, 1857 in Wayne County, Ohio.  Barbara died December 4, 1874 in Congress Township, Wayne County, Ohio.  They are buried in the West Salem Cemetery, West Salem, Ohio.


Ahnentafel # 174 : Abraham Byers (1771-1823).  Abraham was born December 31, 1771.  Abraham married Mary Stickel (1768-1842) circa 1795 in York County, Pennsylvania.  Mary was born August 28, 1768 in Warrington Township, York County, Pennsylvania.  They were the parents of at least 9 children.  Mary died September 24, 1842 in Warrington Township, York County, Pennsylvania.  Abraham died January 21, 1823 in Warrington Township, York County, Pennsylvania.


Ahnentafel # 348 : Charles Byers (c1730-1799).  Charles was born circa 1730.  He married Elizabeth ________ (1739-1832) circa 1759.  Elizabeth was born in 1739. They were the parents of at least 11 children.  Elizabeth died March 20, 1832 in Franklin Township, York County, Pennsylvania.  Charles died August 1799 in York County, Pennsylvania.

Six Months In And Not Much Biting

Well, it's been six months since I began this journey of fishing for "cousin bait" by posting this series of "On This Day..." posts.  To be honest, I'm not sure it's worth continuing, though I probably will because I will feel guilty if I don't follow through with what I said I would do.


I had visions of grandeur when I began the series - thinking that folks would find my blog, notice their ancestors or cousin - and begin to contact me and share information.


I've only managed to have a few comments and a few emails about possible connections - all of which I've been too distracted to write blog posts about.  If i get time on my next vacation, I will force myself to write those out.  Those that have made a connection have been able to provide some leads for further research.


Things I've learned since starting this series:

• The rote nature of writing a blog post day after day about events from my genealogy database can quickly lead to burnout.  If it was not for the fact that I can 'pre-load' some of these posts, there would surely be days where I was not able to get a post made.
• There are so many facts in my database without sources, even more than I realized.  Back in the day, I was a name-collector of sorts, and added from other GEDCOMS.  Also, in the past I have too easily added facts to my database, thinking I would go back later and add the sources.  I've found that if I do it that way, the sources just do not get added.
• Many 'facts' in my database have conflicting dates and or sources that I need to get a handle on.  If there was a date conflict, I simply didn't add that event to the list of that day.
• Certain family lines have an over-representation in my database, due to the whether I've added from compiled genealogies, GEDCOMS, etc.
• Though I've done some other serious research, I've simply not been able to blog about them.  Perhaps it would be better for me in the future to just blog on the fly as I research the line.
• My guilt about not have a blog post every day is simply false guilt.  No one notices if they don't get their daily post from me.  No one.
