William was the son of Matthew and Mary (REYNOLDS) OSBORNE, and the older brother of my Lydia OSBORNE. William's birth was recorded in 1764, 11th month, 27th day at New Garden Monthly Meeting, Guilford County, North Carolina. I do not have dates of birth or death, nor parentage of Anna. They had 11 children. William died February 23, 1850 in Guilford County, North Carolina.
My paternal 3rd-great grandaunt, Catherine PETRY, was born on this date in 1790 in York York County, Pennsylvania. Catherine was the daughter of George and Maria Catharina (KALTREIDER) PETRY, and the older sister of my Barbara PETRY. Catherine married March 27, 1810 to George MILLER. George was born March 30, 1786 in Mannheim Township, York County, Pennsylvania. They had 7 children. George died August 29, 1825 in York County, Pennsylvania. Catherine died August 9, 1881 in Preble County, Ohio.

Family Milestones: April 8th
My maternal 4th-great grandaunt, Sarah JACOBS, married on this date in 1830 in Brown County, Ohio to James JOHNSTON. Sarah was the daughter of James Thomas and Isabella (FEILY) JACOBS, and the older sister of my Elizabeth JACOBS. Sarah was born April 2, 1810 in Adams County, Ohio. I do not have dates of birth or death for James, nor his parentage. Sarah died July 30, 1870 in Brown County, Ohio. Nothing further is known at this time.

Location Errors
I'm always grateful when someone sees my database and contacts me, even if it is to make a correction. Jack Howell contacted me about the death location I had at Rootsweb for David McPheeters, which I had placed as 1784 in Botetourt County, Kentucky.
Obviously, there is no such place as Botetourt County, Kentucky. If he died in Botetourt County, then it had to be in Virginia. If he really died in Kentucky in 1784, the death must have taken place in one of the 3 counties formed in 1780 out of Kentucky County, Virginia : Fayette, Jefferson, or Lincoln.
My source for his death date was a genealogy compiled by Helen Rice McPheeters. Unfortunately, I don't have access right now to this book to look and see where the error lies.Either I wrote the information down incorrectly from the book, or it is cited incorrectly in the book. Right now I'm leaning towards my error!

Ancestor Approved
I'm honored to have been awarded the 'Ancestor Approved' award by Theresa at Tangled Trees and Julie at GenBlog. Now I have to pass it on to others in the geneablogger community, as well as list 10 things that have surprised, humbled or enlightened me through my genealogical research.
Surprised:
1. By how much there still is to learn about my family, even after all these years of working on my genealogy.
2. To find out that I'm my own cousin several times over - I'm a victim of pedigree collapse.
3. That so many 'skeletons' aren't so bad when seen in the light of today. People are people, the really interesting ones make the newspapers!
Humbled:
4. By the courage of my ancestors who made the decision to journey to a new world - whether to escape persecution, seek fortune or simply start anew.
5. To find that so many others are willing to help share their research expertise and go the 'extra mile' to help out a fellow genealogist.
6. The sacrifices made by those who served in times of war to protect our freedoms or to ensure that others had the same chances.
Enlightened:
7. To find out that I had a Mayflower ancestor - Stephen Hopkins (still need to 'prove' it)
8. With a desire to gain knowledge of the history of the times my ancestors lived, whether it be colonial days or Civil War
9. To find that I'm not the only one out there - there is a great community of geneabloggers on the Internet, each with their own story to tell.
10. By the fact that no piece of evidence should be overlooked, and that the case is never closed on a genealogical conclusion!

Tombstone Tuesday: Kenneth Paul and Mary Louis (Dalrymple) LeMaster
Kenneth Paul and Mary Louise (DALRYMPLE) LeMASTER are buried in the Salamonia Cemetery, Madison Township, Jay County, Indiana. Kenneth was my 1st cousin once removed.
Kenneth was born October 8, 1911 in Mercer County, Ohio, the son of Clarence Harrison and Ferry May (BICKEL) LeMASTER
Mary Louise was born September 13, 1917 in Darke County, Ohio, the daughter of Evan James and Eva Mae (RUNNER) DALRYMPLE.
Kenneth was a farmer and factory worker. They had 4 children: Wanda Faye, Francis Duane (Bud), Janet Marie and Nancy Jo.
Kenneth died April 6, 2001 in Portland, Jay County, Indiana. Mary Louise died January 29, 2001 in Portland, Jay County, Indiana.

Nothing Further Known At This Time
For some time now, I have been posting tidbits about my family and ancestors as a series of 'Family Milestones' posts. What started out as an attempt to new content posted to the blog has turned out to be instructive and enlightening to me in regards to the lack of information that I possess about any number of families.
My hope in publishing these mini-posts is that others who are researching the surnames will find the posts and be able to add information to my data. Some have contacted me, and for that I am thankful. I hope that those who read the blog are not too bored by the recitation of birth, marriage and relationship information.
Recently, I have begun to add the phrase 'nothing further is known at this time' to those posts on distant great-grandaunts and uncles, etc. that I have very little information. My hope is that eventually I will get to a point where I can go back and update those posts with newly found information. Perhaps some distant cousin will be able to add to the information with a death date, burial location or children, etc.
'Nothing further known at this time' is truly the status of all genealogy research - it's the journey in the discovery that takes these individuals from a mere series of names and dates and breathes some life into them that keeps me going.

World War II Draft Registration: Fred Joseph Axe
Fred Joseph AXE was born March 22, 1882 in Jay County, Indiana. He married December 25, 1903 in Jay County, Indiana to Amanda A. METZNER, daughter of William F. and Mary Ann (HALEY) METZNER. He was a farmer, and census records place him in Bearcreek Township, Jay County, Indiana.
The Mr. William AXE listed as a contact on his draft registration was his son. Fred and Amanda had 3 children: Ruth, Mary and William. At the time of this registration, his wife may have been deceased, as I do not have a death date for Amanda.
His physical description lists him at 5'10", grey eyes and hair, light brown complexion, weighing 190 lbs.

They had 10 children. Sarah died in 1864. William later remarried to Rachel ________. William died July 3, 1887 in Linn County, Missouri.

Sentimental Sunday: Easter memories
This week I asked mom to share some of her Easter memories. The following is a transcript of the interview:
How did your family celebrate Easter?
Every Easter mother made us both Easter outfits. Always had a hat and gloves and black patent leather shoes.
I remember one morning early on Easter I received a little white jacket coat.
We always stood out front of the house and had our picture taken. I have pictures somewhere.
I also remember one year having an aqua-colored dress with ruffles (dotted Swiss).
Don't remember having an egg hunt, but always got a basket with candy.

Charles married March 6, 1889 in Norton, Norton County, Kansas to Minnie Elizabeth SHIMEALL, daughter of Clark Floyd and Salina Madelein (NEWCOMB) SHIMEALL. Minnie was born April 18, 1872 in Hopkinton, Delaware County, Iowa. They had 1 daughter and later divorced. Minnie died February 5, 1950 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California. Charles married secondly to Leona M. ________. Charles lived in Phillips County, Kansas and Lancaster County, Nebraska. Last record is found in 1920 census of Lincoln, Lancaster County, Nebraska.
My maternal 3rd-great granduncle, Nelson J. LAMBERTSON, was born on this date in 1838 in Stillwell Corner, Butler County, Ohio. Nelson was the son of John and Sarah A. (WILLSON) LAMBERTSON, and the older brother of my Carey W. LAMBERTSON. Nelson married June 26, 1858 in Reilly Township, Butler County, Ohio to Eliza Jane JOHNSON. Eliza was born December 1837 in Ohio. They raised 5 children in Darke and Butler Counties, Ohio. Nelson was a Civil War veteran of Company I, 167th Regiment of the Ohio National Guard. He was a wagonmaker and farmer. Eliza died July 6, 1899. Nelson died October 3, 1929 at the National Military Home, Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio.
My paternal 2nd-great granduncle, William Anderson CHEW, was born on this date in 1858 in Darke County, Ohio. William was the son of Dr. Ezekiel Cooper and Caroline Bishop (WOOLSTON) CHEW, and the younger brother of my Mary Keziah CHEW. William married in 1886 at New Weston, Darke County, Ohio to Emma Susan STRAIGHT, daughter of William and Catherine (BIDDINGER) STRAIGHT. Emma was born June 1866 in Ohio. They raised 9 children in Salamonia, Jay County, Indiana where William was a physician. Emma died in 1934. William died January 6, 1914 in Salamonia, Jay County, Indiana. Both are buried in the Salamonia Cemetery, Jay County, Indiana.

He was a wagonmaker and farmer. Eliza died July 6, 1899. Nelson died October 3, 1929 at the National Military Home, Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio.
My paternal 2nd-great granduncle, William Anderson CHEW, was born on this date in 1858 in Darke County, Ohio. William was the son of Dr. Ezekiel Cooper and Caroline Bishop (WOOLSTON) CHEW, and the younger brother of my Mary Keziah CHEW. William married in 1886 at New Weston, Darke County, Ohio to Emma Susan STRAIGHT, daughter of William and Catherine (BIDDINGER) STRAIGHT. Emma was born June 1866 in Ohio. They raised 9 children in Salamonia, Jay County, Indiana where William was a physician. Emma died in 1934. William died January 6, 1914 in Salamonia, Jay County, Indiana. Both are buried in the Salamonia Cemetery, Jay County, Indiana.

Ahnentafel # 47: Margaret Emley PRINCE (c1835- ). Margaret was born circa 1835 in Kentukcy, according to the 1870 census. She married August 15, 1857 to David C. DUNAWAY. David was born September 1833 in Kentucky, the son of Benjamin Evans and Martha Hogg (MIZE) DUNAWAY. The family appears in the 1870 census of Graves County, Kentucky, and the 1900 census of Marshall County, Kentucky. They may be in the 1880 census of Gibson County, Tennessee. They had at least 2 children.
This is a relatively new line to research, and there is much to discover. A cursory search of the 1850 census in Kentucky shows one possibility, a Margaret PRINCE born circa 1839 in the household of Wilson PRINCE in Lawrence County, Kentucky. Wilson aged 25, born in Virginia, could be a brother.

Now you can track the participation rates of your community, county or state through the 2010 Participation Rates webpage at the home of the 2010 census.
This website is a collaboration between the U.S. Census Bureau and Google. I had trouble getting the site to work with just a zip code, so instead clicked on the state map, and then zoomed into the local community.
I was surprised to see the rate of participation in my community. Right now it stands at 56%. We have not received our form yet at my house. Perhaps we'll receive a visit later in the year.

Sometimes an error isn't an error
One of the great things about RootsMagic is the ability to do a 'problem search' in my database. One of the bad things about the search is that my database seems to have too many errors. While some of them are from times when I've imported data from others, there are some that are there because I've created typos or just haven't been thorough in my research.
In trying to catch some of the errors, I ran the report to show those individuals in the database who died with an age greater than 100 years. The first individual listed was William Applegate, who showed at age 105 at death. I had his date of birth as circa 1733 in Burlington County, New Jersey and his death as circa 1838 in Corydon, Indiana. My sources for both of these loose dates were from "A history of Adams County, Ohio.." as below:
Granted, this may not be the best source, but it is a source nonetheless. Will have to continue to look into old William to see if he really was 105 years of age, but for now, will ignore this supposed error in my RootsMagic database.
William is not a blood relative, but his daughter, Catherine, married Robert WRIGHT, my maternal 6th-great granduncle. Apparently, the Wrights and the Applegates migrated together into the Brown County, Ohio area in the early 1800s. More to research.

Albert Leroy Adams: World War I Draft Registration
Albert Leroy ADAMS was born February 13, 1882 in Mercer County, Ohio, the son of Jonathan and Mary Jane (RIDDLE) ADAMS. Mary Jane (RIDDLE) ADAMS later became the 3rd wife of Dr. Ezekiel Cooper CHEW. Albert was also the brother of Bertha ADAMS, who married Donavan R. CHEW, son of Dr. Ezekiel Cooper and Caroline (WOOLSTON) CHEW. So even though he is not a blood relative, I have tried to keep track of him as part of the family picture.
Though hard to read, Albert was 36 years old at the time of this draft registration, a resident of North Liberty, St. Joseph County, Indiana. His occupation was that of a self-employed contractor. I am not quite able to make out the name of his closest living relative. Can you?
[Update: 3/4/12 - A reader contacted me and believes that the name of his nearest living relative is "Wife Mabel Adams". Believe this is correct.]

Both are buried in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Jay County, Indiana.

My cousin, Sara Roselinni, was nice enough to provide these photographs of the tombstones of her grandparents and great-grandparents. Her grandfather, Dr. Cledith O. Graves (1897-1959) was the son of Arthur E. (1871-1920) and Carrie Mae (HALEY) GRAVES (1877-1956). These graves are in Midland, Michigan.
Carrie Mae (HALEY) GRAVES was the daughter of George Washington and Mary Jane (SHERRICK) HALEY, and the younger sister of my paternal great-grandfather, Eli Weldon HALEY.
Arthur E. GRAVES was born August 1871 in Indiana. He married Carrie Mae HALEY on February 23, 1895 in Jay County, Indiana. In the 1900 census, they were living in Noble Township, Jay County, Indiana. In the 1910 census, they were living in the 2nd ward of Midland, Midland County, Michigan. In the 1920 census, they were living in the 3rd ward of Pontiac, Oakland County, Michigan. Arthur was a carpenter. He died in 1920. Carrie died in 1956.
Cledith O. GRAVES was born November 1897 in Indiana. He married Sadie F. BELITZ. Sadie was born in 1897. Cledith was a doctor. He died 1959 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. Sadie died in 1989 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.

I was contacted by James LaLone who let me know about a resource for those researching the Hagaman family and other spellings. The website focuses on all brances and spellings of the Dutch surname: Hagaman, Hage(r)man, Hege(r)man, etc.
In my database, I have just a few Hagamans, etc.
Charles Sherman HAGAMAN born November 16, 1844 Rochester, Monroe County, New York. He married February 1868 in Alexandria, Ohio to Lydia MOULTON, daughter of Albert and Emeline (PHILBRICK) MOULTON. Lydia was born January 1849 in Illinois. They lived their lives in Livingston County, Missouri, where Charles was a farmer. Charles was a Civil War veteran of the 18th New York Infantry. Charles died in 1925. Lydia died October 17, 1916 in Chillicothe Township, Livingston County, Missouri. Both are buried in the Edgewood Cemetery. Lydia was a sister to my ancestress, Clara MOULTON.
Also, the wife of my ancestor, James GROENENDYKE (1770-1836) is sometimes listed as Johannah HAGERMAN, although I believe her surname should be ANTONIDES. Interestingly, they did have a son names Thomas Hagerman GROENNEDYKE, so there may be a family connection.

Sentimental Sunday: Memories of Virgil Lee Wright (1894-1972)
Virgil Lee Wright (1894-1972) was my maternal great-grandfather. While I don't have any memories of him to share, my cousin Charlie High shared some of the following tidbits:
"Virgil hid his Salem cigarettes in my cattles' corn born bin. He was always at the fairs when I showed my cattle and he came and visited me in El Paso, Texas while I was in AIT training in the Army. Bob and Barbara Webster brought him down there."
Another tidbit was relied by Charlie "a guy at the feed barn named Ernie Rector said his family was in a thrashing ring with Virgil and many locals such as Blackledge, Goldie Freese and many more, John and Mike Wright, etc." I had no idea what a thrashing ring was, until I looked it up on Google and found this book:
Charlie also told me that he named his first steer after Virgil, called him "Virg".

With A Little Help From My Friends
Thanks to the encouragement of my friends Earline from Ancestral Notes and Apple from Apple's Tree, I've added a GEDCOM to my user ID at Ancestry.com. Hopefully others who may be researching my lines will find the information useful, and I can make even more connections.
I decided to use a GEDCOM that includes not only my daughter's ancestry, but my stepdaughters' as well. Hopefully, that will generate more 'hits' of potential new information and collaboration with other researchers. This tree contains more 'sourced' information than the tree I have at World Connect, which contains the whole database.
I haven't added any photographs to this tree yet, although I may in the future. As I understand it, if I upload a replacement GEDCOM, I will lose the attached information previously added.
As my genea-blogging friends pointed out, you can never have too many places to share your tree and make connections.

I haven't added any photographs to this tree yet, although I may in the future. As I understand it, if I upload a replacement GEDCOM, I will lose the attached information previously added.
As my genea-blogging friends pointed out, you can never have too many places to share your tree and make connections.

Grandpa Lambertson's Accident: September 10, 1917
My maternal 3rd-great grandfather's obituary from March of 1918 stated that he had suffered injuries in an automobile accident the previous September. I managed to search the local paper the other day and found an article about Carey W. LAMBERTSON and the accident he was involved with. Turns out it was not an automobile accident, but a wagon incident that nearly killed him.
At the time of this incident, Carey would have been 70 years old. I'm sure that this was a painful injury. I checked the following couple of days in September, but did not find any other articles that mentioned this incident.

FELL OFF BRIDGE
Horse, Wagons and Driver in Serious Accident Today.
Carel [sic] Lambertson suffered painful, and possibly internal injuries, and a horse driven by him was so injured that it will die when the animal became unmanagable this morning and backed off the North F and Anderson street bridge. Mr. Lambertson was driving a spring wagon at the time and before he could save himself he had been thrown down into the creek bottom and narrowly escaped being crushed by the wagon and horse which followed. A piece of timber from the wagon struck the horse, entering the body and so injuring one lung that it is not believed the animal can live. Mr. Lambertson was removed to his home where he is reported resting as well as could be expected this afternoon.

My maternal 2nd-great granduncle, Samuel S. LAMBERTSON, married on this date in 1897 in Tipton County, Indiana to Ida M. STONE. Samuel was the son of Carey W. and Clara E. (COOK) LAMBERTSON, and the younger brother of my Charles LAMBERTSON. Samuel was born January 11, 1875 in Preble County, Ohio. Ida was born in 1878 in Franklin County, Indiana, the daughter of William and Alice (SEALS) STONE. They had one child that died before the 1900 census, when they were living in Hamilton County, Indiana. Ida died June 19, 1900 in Hamilton County, Indiana. Samuel died October 15, 1911 in Elwood, Madison County, Indiana. Samuel is buried in the Elwood City Cemetery, Elwood, Madison County, Indiana.
My paternal great aunt, Dorothy Dot LeMASTER, was born on this date in 1900 in Salamonia, Jay County, Indiana. Dorothy was the daughter of Luman Cooper and Barbara Isabel (WEHRLY) LeMASTERS, and the older sister of my Ord Wehrly LeMASTER. Dorothy married July 21, 1921 to Charles Glendon HUNT. Charles was born July 13, 1900 in Albright, Indiana, the son of William Allen and Mary Leota (WEBER) HUNT. They lived in Richmond, Indiana and had 3 children. Dorothy married secondly on February 8, 1962 to Glen LOCK. Charles died February 11, 1956 in Richmond, Wayne County, Indiana. Dorothy died October 1984 in Centerville, Wayne County, Indiana.
My maternal 6th-great granduncle, Robert WRIGHT, was baptized on this date in 1758 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Robert was the son of Deacon John and Hannah (FESSENDEN) WRIGHT, and the younger brother of my John WRIGHT. Robert married circa 1780 to Catherine APPLEGATE. Catherine was born circa 1762 in New Jersey, the daughter of William and Sarah Catherine (WIGGINS) APPLEGATE. Robert served in the Revolutionary War. He was a farmer in Clermont and Brown Counties, Ohio. They had 9 children. Catherine died before March 12, 1839 in Brown County, Ohio. Robert died before April 21, 1840 in Brown County, Ohio.

William was born February 1835 in Indiana, the son of Benjamin and Margaret (CLINE) CUNNINGHAM. William was a farmer and shoemaker in Madison Township, Jay County, Indiana. They had 6 children. William died June 4, 1912. Rachel died March 12, 1913. Both are buried at the Salamonia Cemetery, Jay County, Indiana.

Austin was born September 2, 1799 in Thetford, Orange County, Vermont, the son of Gordon and Thirsa (SMALLEY) PIERCE. I do not have the dates of birth or death for Mary Ann. They had 8 children. Austin died June 17, 1861 in Villenova, New York.
My maternal 3rd-great grandaunt, Elizabeth J. BEALS, was born on this date in Westfield, Hamilton County, Indiana. Elizabeth was the daughter of John T. and Mary (DAVIS) BEALS, and the older sister of my Nathan T. BEALS. Elizabeth married May 1, 1867 to Solomon HINSHAW. Solomon was born November 1841 in North Carolina, the son of Michael and Rachel (________) HINSHAW. They raised 3 children in Washington Township, Hamilton County, Indiana. Solomon died November 29, 1929. Elizabeth died September 9, 1928. Both are buried in the Summit Lawn Cemetery, Westfield, Hamilton County, Indiana.

Joshua was born circa 1797 in Burlington County, New Jersey. They had 5 children. Joshua died 1800 in Burlington County, New Jersey. I do not have Anne's date of death.

William E. and Rachel (LEMASTERS) CUNNINGHAM, my paternal 2nd-great grandaunt & uncle, are buried in the Salamonia Cemetery, Jay County, Indiana.
William was born February 1835 in Indiana, the son of Benjamin and Margaret (CLINE) CUNNINGHAM.

William and Rachel were married on March 18, 1860 in Jay County, Indiana.
William's occupation was shoemaker and farmer. They lived out their lives in Madison Township, Jay County, Indiana.

To Add Another Online Tree Or Not?
Currently, I have an online database of my entire genealogical database, tjlgenes, online at WorldConnect. While I use this primarily as a source of backup for my data, I've also been contacted by distant cousins who've been kind enough to share corrections and additions through the "post-em" service.
Now that I'm an Ancestry.com subscriber, I've also been able to find others who share a common ancestry and have posted their family trees and photos on the site. Just recently, I was able to connect with a member of my wife's extended family, and we are in the process of sharing information. Since Ancestry.com gives you an option to post a family tree on the site as well, I'm debating whether I should create one.
I'm all in favor of sharing my information as far and as wide as possible, but I'm not sure of the best way to create a tree on Ancestry. Should I upload the whole GEDCOM, or just create a tree one branch at a time? Should I make it one big tree, or several smaller, independent branches. Perhaps I'm over thinking the whole process.

Disappointing news from Arkansas: N.T. Beals research
I received a response yesterday to my inquiry of the Grant County, Arkansas library in Sheridan, regarding an obituary for Nathan T. BEALS. Unfortunately, they have no records that old, but they did suggest that I try the Arkansas History Commission in Little Rock.
According to their website, a newspaper in Grant County published during this time was the Sheridan Headlight.
I'm still hopeful that there is an obituary out there in an Arkansas paper for Nathan T. or N.T. BEALS, who died February 16, 1915 in Leola, Arkansas.
